  1. 1. Functional association networks for disease gene prediction

    Författare :Dimitri Guala; Erik L L Sonnhammer; Hjalmar Brismar; Yves Moreau; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; network biology; biological networks; network prediction; functional association; functional coupling; network integration; functional association networks; genome-wide association networks; gene networks; protein networks; fret; functional enrichment analysis; network cross-talk; pathway annotation; gene prioritisation; network-based gene prioritization; benchmarking; Biochemistry towards Bioinformatics; biokemi med inriktning mot bioinformatik;

    Sammanfattning : Mapping of the human genome has been instrumental in understanding diseasescaused by changes in single genes. However, disease mechanisms involvingmultiple genes have proven to be much more elusive. Their complexityemerges from interactions of intracellular molecules and makes them immuneto the traditional reductionist approach. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Long-Term Functional Psychosis : Epidemiology in Two Different Counties in Sweden

    Författare :Birgitta Widerlöv; Lars von Knorring; Jerker Hetta; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Psychiatry; epidemiology; functional psychosis; schizophrenia; prevalence; rural-urban gradient; comparative study; antipsychotic drugs; diagnostic criteria; mortality; Psykiatri;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on two independent studies, the first in Stockholm County (index year 1984; n=302), and the second, a replication and validation study, in Uppsala County (index year 1991; n=455).The general aim was to study all individuals with Long-term Functional Psychosis (LFP) within the two counties of Sweden from an epidemiological perspective and to perform specific studies on a subgroup of individuals with schizophrenia. 3. 3. Protein microarrays for validation of affinity binders

    Författare :Mårten Sundberg; Peter Nilsson; Jochen Schwenk; Anders Isaksson; Afshin Ahmadian; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microarray; protein; antibody; antigen; affinity; validation;

    Sammanfattning : Is specificity an important issue regarding affinity reagents? What about the validation of affinity reagents today, is it good enough? This depends on the application and the producer of the reagent. Validation should be the most important marketing argument that can be found. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Zebrafish models for large-scale genetic screens in dyslipidemia and atherosclerosis : Validation and application

    Författare :Manoj Kumar Bandaru; Marcel den Hoed; Anastasia Emmanouilidou; Ingelsson Erik; Shannon Fisher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; zebrafish; dyslipidemia; atherosclerosis; genetic screens; high-cholesterol diet; APOE; APOB; LDLR; APOC2; PCSK9; LPAR2; GATAD2A; Medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Hundreds of loci have been robustly associated with circulating lipids, atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease; but for most loci the causal genes and mechanisms remain uncharacterized. The overall aim of my thesis is to develop and validate novel in vivo model systems that are suitable for high-throughput, image-based genetic screens in coronary artery disease and related traits, and use these model systems to systematically characterize positional candidate genes. 5. 5. Contributions to management and validation of non-functional requirements

    Författare :Andreas Borg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Non-functional requirements (NFRs) are essential when considering software quality in that they shall represent the right quality of the intended software. It is generally hard to get hold of NFRs and to specify them in measurable terms, and most software development methods applied today focus on functional requirements (FRs). LÄS MER
