  1. 16. Macula Densa Derived Nitric Oxide and Kidney Function

    Författare :Anna Ollerstam; Pontus Persson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Nitric oxide; rats; kidney; macula densa cells; tubuloglomerular feedback; renin; angiotensin II; blood pressure; hypertension; renal blood flow; neuronal nirtic oxide synthase; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The kidney is the major organ regulating the extracellular fluid volume and thereby the arterial blood pressure. The neuronal isoform of nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) in the kidney is predominantly located in the macula densa cells. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Developmental disturbances of the embryo in diabetic pregnancy

    Författare :Parri Wentzel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; diabetes; pregnancy; embryo; malformation; glucose; ROS; SOD; NAC; prosta- glandin; COX; COX inhibitor; gene expression; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Maternal diabetes during pregnancy constitutes an increased risk for congenital malformation in the offspring. Previous studies have suggested that diabetic embryopathy is associated with an excess of reactive oxygen species (ROS) as well as with a disturbance of prostaglandin (PG) metabolism. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Blood Flow Regulation and Inflammatory Response in Experimental Models of Diabetes

    Författare :Ulrika Pettersson; Mia Phillipson; Leif Jansson; Johanna Henriksnäs; Mikael Rydén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Islets; beta-cells; pancreas; inflammation; obesity; adipose tissue; rats; mice; leukocytes; beta3-adrenoceptors; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is caused by defect pancreatic islet β-cells together with peripheral insulin resistance. The disease is often accompanied by obesity with associated low-grade visceral adipose tissue inflammation, which contributes to insulin resistance. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Diabetes in 3D : β-cell mass assessments in disease models & evaluation of SPECT based imaging

    Författare :Saba Parween; Ulf Ahlgren; Helena Edlund; Eckhard Lammert; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Optical projection tomography; Diabetes; β-cell mass; disease etiology; 3D imaging; radiotracers; Single photon emission computed tomography; molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; molecular medicine  genetics and pathology ;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes is a rapidly growing disease with 415 million affected adults worldwide. The pancreatic endocrine cells, most importantly the insulin producing β-cells, play an important role in regulating blood glucose homeostasis. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Early Blood Cell Formation "in sickness and health, ´till death do us part"

    Författare :Kees-Jan Pronk; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hematopoietic stem cell; differentiation; regulation; myeloerythropoeisis; myelopoesis; p16INK4A; aging; tumor necrosis factor;

    Sammanfattning : Hematopoietic stem cells (HSC), the ancestors of all blood cells, have the ability to give rise to mature effector cells through a series of developmental steps. This is a tightly regulated, though a highly dynamic process: on the one hand, dysregulation in steady-state could lead to under- or overgrowth of certain blood cell lineages, whereas, on the other hand, demands for certain mature blood cells can change dramatically in cases like bleeding and infections.
