1. Star clusters as engines of galaxy evolution
Sammanfattning : Feedback in star forming galaxies is the key process that regulates how many stars form given the available gas reservoir. The radiation, energy and momentum released by the stellar activity and the active galactic nuclei change the physical properties of the gas in the galaxy such as the ionisation state, the density and the kinematics. 2. Super Star Clusters in Blue Compact Galaxies : Evidence for a near-infrared flux excess and properties of the starburst phase
Sammanfattning : Luminous Blue compact galaxies (BCGs) are metal-poor actively star-forming systems, characterised by bright ultraviolet and blue luminosities. Hubble Space Telescope high-resolution data have revealed that the luminous star-forming knots in these galaxies are composed of hundreds of young massive star clusters. LÄS MER

4. Ionized and atomic interstellar medium in star-forming galaxies
Sammanfattning : Star forming galaxies in the local Universe are an important laboratory for learning about conditions in the distant, early Universe. With a high frequency of interactions and mergers, strong star formation activity, and complex kinematics and often disturbed or irregular morphology, these galaxies are believed to be the best local analogs to the galaxies at early times, and can therefore help understand the galaxies we observe at high redshifts in the early Universe. 5. Young Stellar Clumps and Clusters in the Local Universe
Sammanfattning : The thesis introduces the process of star formation at the scale of galaxies, where a turbulent--dominated interstellar medium (ISM) can locally collapse under self-gravity. This collapse results in a star formation process which is hierarchical both in space and time. LÄS MER
