    Sammanfattning : The experimental work presented in this thesis is based on a wide assortment of very advanced and highly sophisticated photoelectron spectroscopy (PES) techniques. The objective of the present study has been to reveal and understand the electronic structure and electron dynamics in a broad spectrum of materials, ranging from wide band gap oxides, via semiconductors along with metals, and finally high-temperature superconductors.     Sammanfattning : Using x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), x-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) in combination with density functional theory (DFT) the changes in electronic and geometric structure of hydrocarbons upon adsorption are determined. The chemical bonding is analyzed and the results provide new insights in the mechanisms responsible for dehydrogenation in heterogeneous catalysis. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The relationship between the HgMn and Am classes of chemically peculiar stars has been investigated primarily by observing abundances of heavy elements, including Pr, Nd, Hg, Tl and Bi. The main objective of the investigation has been to gather observational evidence to provide a better understanding of the mechanisms producing the abundance anomalies of these stars, and to establish the relationship between the two classes.     Sammanfattning : In this thesis, factors important in tableting operations and for tablet properties have been studied and characterised by different spectroscopic techniques as well as by some more conventionally used particle characterisation techniques. The spectroscopic techniques solid-state NMR, FT-IR and NIR spectroscopy, proved to be valuable tools in the estimation of particle and tablet properties, offering both specificity and sensitivity in the measurements.
