11. Myocardial infarction - Risk stratification and evaluation of therapies
Sammanfattning : Background. Myocardial infarction (MI) remains the leading cause of death worldwide, despite several advances in acute coronary care during the last decades. This thesis assessed different risk stratification tools and evaluated interventional and pharmacological treatment strategies in high-risk patients with MI. Methods. LÄS MER
12. Improving outcomes in patients with coronary heart disease using national registers and platelet function testing
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Ischemic heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. The aims of this thesis were to evaluate different contemporary approaches in coronary care with regard to mortality and myocardial infarction. LÄS MER
13. Influence of chronic kidney disease on presentation, treatment and outcome in patients with coronary artery disease
Sammanfattning : Background. About one third of patients with myocardial infarction (MI) have renal dysfunction (RD). Concomitant coronary artery disease (CAD) and RD is accompanied by a markedly higher risk of death and subsequent cardiovascular (CV) events. LÄS MER
14. Prevention of intimal hyperplasia after balloon angioplasty and / or stent insertion. or How to mend a broken heart - Just say NO
Sammanfattning : Background: Restenosis is the most frequently occurring adverse event after percutaneous intravascular treatment of atherosclerotic lesions, which limits long-term patency of the intervention. Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate if minimizing vascular injury during treatment by insertion of self-expanding stents or modifying the reparative mechanisms by local drug delivery can reduce restenosis. 15. On cardiovascular complications in people with type 2 diabetes : Aspects of incretin-based therapy and glycemic control
Sammanfattning : Background: Hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and the presence of advanced glycation end products are key features of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and the leading mechanisms behind the increased cardiovascular risk observed in people with this condition. Percutaneous coronary revascularization has been associated with higher risk of stent failure in people with diabetes mellitus (DM), having greater risk of both in-stent restenosis (ISR) and stent thrombosis (ST).
