    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; celiac disease; type 1 diabetes; children; genetics; human leukocyte antigen; next generation sequencing;

    Sammanfattning : AbstractThe primary purpose of understanding disease etiology is to explain how a specific phenotype is determined by genotype. In pursue of this aim, exploring the diversity in DNA sequence variants that affect biomedical traits, especially those related to the onset and progression of genetically determined human disease. 2. 7. The genetics of IgA deficiency : a ‛two-disease’ approach

    Författare :Ning Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Selective IgA deficiency (IgAD) is the most common primary immunodeficiency disorder in Caucasians with a prevalence of approximately 1:600 in the general population. It is defined as serum IgA levels below or equal to 0.07 g/l with normal serum levels of IgM and IgG above the age of 4. LÄS MER

    Författare :Mikael Knutsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; affected sib-pair; linkage analysis; nonparametric linkage score; sib prevalence; statistical genetics; nonparametric linkage score;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of three papers in statistical genetics, with the emphasis on affected sib-pair linkage analysis. In Paper A, a method to derive the power of linkage analysis in genome scans, using a stepwise approach, is presented. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies and cancer : familial risk, genetics and consequences

    Författare :Weng Ian Che; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) are a group of rare rheumatic inflammatory diseases (RIDs), characterised by a diverse range of clinical, serological and histopathological characteristics, with muscle weakness as a shared hallmark. While advancements in disease management have improved the survival rates of patients with IIM, the mortality rate among patients with IIM is still higher than the general population, mainly due to association with comorbidities such as cancer.
