  1. 16. The control of growth and metabolism in Caenorhabditis elegans

    Författare :Josefin Friberg; Simon Tuck; Cathy Savage-Dunn; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TGFβ; insulin; collagen; p70 S6K; metabolism; growth; dauer; Caenorhabditis elegans; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The control of growth is a poorly understood aspect of animal development. This thesis focuses on body size regulation in Caenorhabditis elegans, and in particular, how worms grow to a certain size. In C. elegans, a key regulator of size is the TGFβ homologue DBL-1. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Mass spectrometry based analysis of drugs, neurotransmitters and lipids in invertebrate model systems

    Författare :Nhu TN Phan; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; CE-MS; Imaging mass spectrometry; Lipids; Neurotransmitters; Drug; Drosophila; C. elegans;

    Sammanfattning : Mass spectrometry (MS) is one of the most universal analytical techniques due to its label-free detection principle and high chemical specificity, high selectivity, and sensitivity. MS is diverse with many different types of systems to meet different analytical demands from various research areas. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Development of Nonlinear Microscopy for Studies of Metabolism and Tissue Engineering

    Författare :Madeleine Åkeson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; imaging; bacterial cellulose; nonlinear microscopy; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; yeast; C. elegans; Microscopy; lipid storage;

    Sammanfattning : Nonlinear microscopy techniques provide abilities for noninvasive and selective imaging of structural and chemical properties of biological systems. These techniques include coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) microscopy with the ability to selectively image molecular vibrations, second harmonic generation (SHG) microscopy which selectively images fiber structures, and third harmonic generation (THG) microscopy which is sensitive to interfaces between materials with different optical properties. 4. 19. Cell fate specification by Ras-mediated cell signalling in C. elegans

    Författare :Teresa Tiensuu; Simon Tuck; Benjamin Podbilewicz; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; cell signalling; Ras; vulva precursor cell; lin-25; sur-2; lin-1; cell fate specification; Mediator; vulva induction; transcriptional regulation; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Induction of vulval fates in the C. elegans hermaphrodite is mediated by a conserved RTK/Ras/MAP kinase signalling pathway, in which the core components can be placed into a linear genetic and biochemical pathway. However, the events that occur downstream of this pathway are not yet well understood. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Regulatory function of homeobox genes in the development of C. elegans

    Författare :Yong-Guang Tong; Södertörns högskola; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The nematode worm Caenorhabditis elegans has been widely used as a genetic model for over 40 years to investigate developmental control genes. In this thesis, I studied the roles of several homeobox genes and a novel RNA binding protein (RBD) in the development of C. elegans to understand the function of these genes in higher organisms.
