6. Applications of hydrodynamic forces for membrane chromatography
Sammanfattning : Membrane proteins are proteins that reside in the cell membrane. Due to their position in the cell membrane, the barrier between the cell interior and exterior, they are vital to cell signaling. Moreover, the presence of membrane proteins in the cell's signaling pathways make membrane proteins important drug targets. LÄS MER
7. Psi-calculi: a framework for mobile process calculi : Cook your own correct process calculus - just add data and logic
Sammanfattning : A psi-calculus is an extension of the pi-calculus with nominal data types for data structures, logical assertions, and conditions. These can be transmitted between processes and their names can be statically scoped as in the standard pi-calculus. LÄS MER
8. Granular Materials for Transport Infrastructures : Mechanical performance of coarse–fine mixtures for unbound layers through DEM analysis
Sammanfattning : Granular materials are widely used as unbound layers within the infrastructure system playing a significant role on performance and maintenance. However, fields like pavement and railway engineering still heavily rely on empirically-based models owing to the complex behaviour of these materials, which partly stems from their discrete nature. 9. New Forms of Collaboration in Emergency Response Systems : A framework for participatory design of information systems
Sammanfattning : An emergency response systems (ERS) is usually responsible for delivering essential services to save lives and minimise environmental damage in case of small, frequent or large-scale emergencies. The ongoing global financial crisis, lack of professional resources, public sector cuts and rising public expectations are some of the challenges ERSs currently are facing. LÄS MER
10. The Human Y chromosome and its role in the developing male nervous system
Sammanfattning : Recent research demonstrated that besides a role in sex determination and male fertility, the Y chromosome is involved in additional functions including prostate cancer, sex-specific effects on the brain and behaviour, graft-versus-host disease, nociception, aggression and autoimmune diseases. The results presented in this thesis include an analysis of sex-biased genes encoded on the X and Y chromosomes of rodents. LÄS MER
