1. The Human Y chromosome and its role in the developing male nervous system
Sammanfattning : Recent research demonstrated that besides a role in sex determination and male fertility, the Y chromosome is involved in additional functions including prostate cancer, sex-specific effects on the brain and behaviour, graft-versus-host disease, nociception, aggression and autoimmune diseases. The results presented in this thesis include an analysis of sex-biased genes encoded on the X and Y chromosomes of rodents. LÄS MER
2. Thyroid hormones and their receptors in transcriptional regulation
Sammanfattning : The thyroid hormone receptors (TRs) are encoded by two genes, alpha and ß, and belong to a family of hormone activated nuclear receptors. This family includes the receptors for retinoids and vitamin D3 as well as the receptors for steroid hormones. LÄS MER
3. DNA in centromeres of Chironomus pallidivittatus
Sammanfattning : The centromeres of most higher eukaryotes are embedded within large regions of constitutive heterochromatin and consist of large quantities of highly repetitive DNA. Transposable elements are also found in these regions. LÄS MER
4. Organization of centromere associated DNA in Chironomus pallidivittatus
Sammanfattning : Centromeres have not yet been functionally defined in higher eu- karyotes, largely due to the huge amounts of repeated DNA in these regions of most species and difficulties of delimiting centromeric from pericentric regions. Also the latter have large quantities of mostly noncoding DNA, expressed cytologically as pericentric heterochromatin. LÄS MER
5. Purification of general RNA polymerase II transcription factors from mouse for studies of proliferation-specific transcription
Sammanfattning : Accurate initiation of transcription by RNA polymerase II depends on general transcription factors (GTFs), which include the TATA-binding protein (TBP) and the transcription factors (TF) IIB, IIF, IIE and IIH. In order to reconstitute mouse transcription in vitro, we cloned the genes encoding mouse TFIIB, and both subunits of TFIIE and TFIIF from a mouse cDNA library. LÄS MER
