  1. 1. Thermodynamic modelling and assessment of some alumino-silicate systems

    Författare :Huahai Mao; Bo Sundman; Gunnar Eriksson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; thermodynamic modelling; thermodynamic assessment; alumino-silicate system; slag; oxide system; CALPHAD; phase diagram; phase equilibrium; Thermo-Calc; compound energy formalism; ionic two sub-lattice liquid model; AlO2-1 species; Al2O3; CaO; MgO; SiO2; Y2O3; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Alumino-silicate systems are of great interest for materials scientists and geochemists. Thermodynamic knowledge of these systems is useful in steel and ceramic industries, and for understanding geochemical processes. A popular and efficient approach used to obtain a self-consistent thermodynamic dataset is called CALPHAD. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Quantitative equilibrium calculations on systems with relevance to copper smelting and converting

    Författare :Bo Björkman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Assessment of silicate systems; model for liquid silicates; lead silicates; iron silicates; cuprous silicates; quantitative equi¬librium calculations; emf measurements; Gibbs free energy; cup¬rous sulphide; dicalcium ferrite; wüstite-calcia solid solution; copper smelting and converting;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis gives a summary of results obtained through theoretical and experimental studies of systems with relevance to copper smelting and converting.Many chemical elements are involved in the copper production processes and a detailed experimental study would be very time- consuming and expensive. 3. 3. Geochemical and Mineralogical Characterization of Waste Rocks for Preliminary Mine Drainage Quality Prediction

    Författare :Teemu Karlsson; Lena Alakangas; Päivi Kauppila; Berndt Lottermoser; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mine waste characterisation; mine drainage water; ARD; NRD; aqua regia extraction; ABA test; NAG test; SEM mineralogy; sulfide minerals; risk assessment; Applied Geochemistry; Tillämpad geokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Acid or neutral rock drainage (ARD or NRD) with its attendant elevated concentrations of harmful elements presents one of the main challenges related to the management of waste rocks. Low-quality drainage is a particular issue with respect to mineral deposits containing sulfide minerals, of which pyrite and pyrrhotite are especially prone to produce acidic drainage when exposed to oxygen and water. 4. 4. Oxidative Dissolution of Spent Fuel and Release of Nuclides from a Copper/Iron Canister : Model Developments and Applications

    Författare :Longcheng Liu; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; model; oxidative dissolution; spent fuel; radiolysis; release; mass transport; radionuclide; hydrogen; corrosion; canister; near field; repository; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Three models have been developed and applied in the performance assessment of a final repository. They are based on accepted theories and experimental results for known and possible mechanisms that may dominate in the oxidative dissolution of spent fuel and the release of nuclides from a canister. 5. 5. Removal of metals from contaminated waters : Evaluating the use of synthetic adsorbents and green algae biomass

    Författare :Roxana Quiroga Flores; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; metals; toxicity; Adsorption; uptake; arsenic; cadmium; lead; methylmercury;

    Sammanfattning : Metal contamination of water bodies has attracted global attention owing to its environmental toxicity, abundance and persistence. Metals such as arsenic, cadmium and mercury are of greater concern since they are toxic even at low concentrations. LÄS MER
