  1. 1. Supercritical fluid extraction of bioactive compounds from berry seeds

    Författare :Graziele Gustinelli Carvalho; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tocopherols; Carotenoids; Fatty acids; Anti-oxidative activity; Berry seed oils; Microscopy.; Tocotrienols; Supercritical CO2 extraction;

    Sammanfattning : Industrial processing of berries into food and beverages generates seeds as a by-product. Most of these seeds are treated as waste even though they contain valuable biological compounds. An approach to adding value to the process is to extract these compounds from the seeds. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Pleiotropic effects of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors : studies in vitro and in vivo

    Författare :Cristine Skogastierna; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the prime cause of death in industrialized countries, resulting from the progression of atherosclerotic lesions. An increased level of plasma cholesterol, particularly within low-density lipoproteins, is a principle risk factor, but also elevated triglycerides and low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. 3. 3. Neuroprotective Effect of Genistein : Studies in Rat Models of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s Disease

    Författare :Maryam Bagheri; Simin Mohseni; David Engblom; Jan Marcusson; Mark J. West; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease (PD) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) are neurodegenerative disorders that mainly affect the elderly population. It is believed that oxidative stress is involved in development of both these diseases and that estrogen deficiency is a risk factor for development of AD. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Phagocyte-induced apoptosis in natural killer cells and T cells. Role of reactive oxygen species and regulation by histamine

    Författare :Markus Hansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Malignant tumors frequently contain an infiltrate of leukocytes, usually cells of the monocyte/macrophage lineage and lymphocytes with anti-tumor activity such as natural killer (NK) cells and T cells. Clinical and experimental data suggest that monocytes/macrophages in tumors inhibit functions of adjacent NK cells/T cells and thereby suppress lymphocyte-dependent anti-tumor immunity. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Intracellular signaling in the lung : a role for C/EBP transcription factors in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, glucocorticoid signaling and lung development

    Författare :Lukas Didon; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Over the last decade, a previously unknown role has been established for members of the C/EBP transcription factor family in lung gene expression. In other organs, C/EBPs are well known regulators of cell differentiation and linked processes such as proliferation, apoptosis, gene expression as well as central regulators of inflammatory responses and infectious defenses.
