  1. 1. Development and three-dimensional histology of vertebrate dermal fin spines

    Författare :Anna Jerve; Per Erik Ahlberg; Martin Brazeau; Tatjana Haitina; Philippe Janvier; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fin spine; paleontology; early vertebrate; histology; development; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Organismal Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär organismbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Jawed vertebrates (gnathostomes) consist of two clades with living representatives, the chondricthyans (cartilaginous fish including sharks, rays, and chimaeras) and the osteichthyans (bony fish and tetrapods), and two fossil groups, the "placoderms" and "acanthodians". These extinct forms were thought to be monophyletic, but are now considered to be paraphyletic partly due to the discovery of early chondrichthyans and osteichthyans with characters that had been previously used to define them. 2. 2. Development of the Mouse Lateral Telencephalon

    Författare :Jan Stenman; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; teratologi; embryologi människa ; Utvecklingsbiologi; ontogeny; embryology human ; teratology; Development biology; progenitor domains; striatum; olfactory bulb; amygdala; development; telencephalon; patterning; mouse;

    Sammanfattning : The telencephalon is the most rostral part of the vertebrate central nervous system and is comprised of a number of structures important for voluntary movements and higher cognitive processes. This thesis focuses on the genetic mechanisms that control development of a number of telencephalic structures: the olfactory bulb, the striatum as well as the lateral and basolateral nuclei of the amygdala. 3. 3. Musculoskeletal Development in Jawed Vertebrates : Gene function, cis-regulation, and 3D phenotypes in zebrafish

    Författare :Jake Leyhr; Tatjana Haitina; Sophie Sanchez; Per Ahlberg; Chrissy Hammond; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nkx3.2; Gdf5; Mkx; zebrafish; jaw joint; skeleton; fin development; cartilage; tendon; ligament; enhancer; CRISPR Cas9; mutant; microCT; synchrotron; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Organismal Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär organismbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Vertebrate skeletons are an intricate framework of bony and cartilaginous structures that form through carefully orchestrated developmental processes, guided by interacting genetic pathways that regulate cellular differentiation, migration, and tissue morphogenesis. The specific timing and localisation of gene expression shapes the diverse array of skeletal elements, from the flexible cartilages of the embryonic stage to the hardened bones that provide structural support in adulthood, and the joints and connective tissues that articulate the musculoskeletal system. 4. 4. Development of photoreceptor organs in teleosts, Molecular and immunocytochemical studies

    Författare :Johan Forsell; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fish; opsin; extraretinal; retina; Development; pineal organ; Zoology; Zoologi;

    Sammanfattning : Many vertebrate animals are known to have multiple sites for photoreception that are not involved in vision. Extraretinal photoreception is indicated to play a crucial role in early development, physiology and behavior, as well as in later biological processes. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Neuronal Development in the Embryonic Retina : Focus on the Characterization, Generation and Development of Horizontal Cell Subtypes

    Författare :Per-Henrik Edqvist; Finn Hallböök; Steven McLoon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Neurosciences; Activin; Chick; Follistatin; Interneuron; Isl1; Lim1; Migration; Neurogenesis; Prox1; Transcription factor; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Horizontal cells are retinal interneurons that modulate the output from photoreceptors. Two horizontal cell (HC) subtypes are commonly identified in the vertebrate retina: axon-bearing and axon-less HCs. LÄS MER
