6. Linking Chains Together : String Bits and the Bethe Ansatz
Sammanfattning : This thesis is divided into two parts. In the first part we focus mainly on certain aspects of the AdS/CFT correspondence. The AdS/CFT correspondence is a proposed duality between Type IIB superstring theory on AdS5 x S5 and N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. LÄS MER
7. Aspects of the Duality between Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Theory and String Theory
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with three topics related to the Ads/CFT correspondence. In Paper I, solutions describing the geometry of fractional D1-branes of Type IIB string theory are presented. The running coupling constant is computed on the gauge theory side. LÄS MER
8. Pierced, Wrapped and Torn : Aspects of String Theory Compactifications
Sammanfattning : An outstanding problem in physics is to find a unified framework for quantum mechanics and general relativity. This is required for a better understanding of black holes and the early cosmology of the universe. String theory provides such a unification. In this thesis, we study aspects of compactifications of type IIB string theory. LÄS MER
9. Spins and Giants : Fundamental Excitations in Weakly and Strongly Coupled ABJM Theory
Sammanfattning : The discovery of integrability on both sides of the duality between planar N=4 super Yang-Mills theory and free type IIB string theory in AdS5 × S5 has lead to great progress in our understanding of the AdS/CFT correspondence. Similar integrable structures also appear in the more recent three-dimensional superconformal N=6 Chern-Simons-matter theory constructed by Aharony, Bergman, Jafferis and Maldacena (ABJM), as well as in its gravity dual, type IIA string theory on AdS4 × CP3. 10. Automorphic forms and string theory: Small automorphic representations and non-perturbative effects
Sammanfattning : This compilation thesis stems from a project with the purpose of determining non-perturbative contributions to scattering amplitudes in string theory carrying important information about instantons, black hole quantum states and M-theory. The scattering amplitudes are functions on the moduli space invariant under the discrete U-duality group and this invariance is one of the defining properties of an automorphic form. LÄS MER
