2. Interfacial Phenomena in Two-Phase systems: Emulsions and slag Foaming
Sammanfattning : In the present work studies were performed to provide understanding for further model development of the two-phase phenomena, film formation from o/w emulsions and slag foaming. The drying of o/w emulsions of different oil viscosities on hydrophobic and hydrophilic substrates was studied. 3. Ballistic Imaging of Transient Phenomena in Turbid Media
Sammanfattning : Ballistic imaging (BI) was developed as an optical diagnostic capable of ascertaining velocity and spatial information within dense sprays with relevance to liquid-fuel injection and combustion. This development includes a full model of light scattering within the complete imaging system, enabling the performance of the instrument to be examined, optimized and quantified. LÄS MER
4. Miniaturised Bioanalytical Chemistry in Acoustically Levitated Droplets
Sammanfattning : Fuelled by the current demands of the biological sciences, there is today a growing interest in microscale analysis. Miniaturisation of analytical instruments has become a long-standing trend. Miniaturisation offers several advantages, including rapid separation times, high performance and throughput, reduced costs, etc. LÄS MER
5. Droplet size, concentration, and temperature mapping in sprays using SLIPI-based techniques
Sammanfattning : Structured laser illumination planar imaging (SLIPI) is a technique capable of suppressing multiple light scattering effects in optically dense sprays, resulting in spray images without blurs and with enhanced contrast. The novelty of the work presented in this thesis concerns the applications of a variety of SLIPI-based techniques for the measurement of droplet size, droplet concentration, and liquid temperature in atomizing sprays.
