  1. 1. Biogenesis, function and regulation of the type III secretion translocon of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis

    Författare :Salah I. Farag; Matthew S Francis; Jörgen Johansson; Åke Forsberg; Luís Jaime Mota; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; type III secretion system; translocation; translocon; regulation; bacteria-eukaryotic cell contact; cytokine profiling;

    Sammanfattning : Many Gram negative bacteria use type III secretion systems to cross-talk with eukaryotic cells. Type III secretion system assembly and function is tightly regulated. LÄS MER

  2. 2. YopD translocator function in Yersinia pseudotuberculosis type III secretion

    Författare :Tiago R. D. Costa; Matthew S. Francis; William D. Picking; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Y. pseudotuberculosis; T3SS; translocon; YopD; coiled-coil; effector delivery; regulation; virulence; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Type III secretion systems (T3SS) are a common feature of Gram-negative bacteria, allowing them to inject anti-host effectors into the interior of infected eukaryotic cells. By this mechanism, these virulence factors help the bacteria to modulate eukaryotic cell function in its favor and subvert host innate immunity. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Marginally hydrophobic transmembrane α-helices shaping membrane protein folding

    Författare :Tuuli Minttu Virkki de Marothy; Arne Elofsson; William Dowhan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane protein folding; hydrophobicity; translocon; transmembrane helix; marginally hydrophobic transmembrane helices; orientational preference; positive inside rule; aquaporin 1; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Most membrane proteins are inserted into the membrane co-translationally utilizing the translocon, which allows a sufficiently long and hydrophobic stretch of amino acids to partition into the membrane. However, X-ray structures of membrane proteins have revealed that some transmembrane helices (TMHs) are surprisingly hydrophilic. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Sequence-based predictions of membrane-protein topology, homology and insertion

    Författare :Andreas Bernsel; Gunnar von Heijne; Volkhard Helms; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane protein; topology prediction; hidden markov model; homology detection; Sec translocon; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane proteins comprise around 20-30% of a typical proteome and play crucial roles in a wide variety of biochemical pathways. Apart from their general biological significance, membrane proteins are of particular interest to the pharmaceutical industry, being targets for more than half of all available drugs. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Type III secretion- the various functions of the translocon operon in bacterial pathogenesis

    Författare :Jeanette E Bröms; Åke Forsberg; Michael Koomey; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Yersinia; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; type III secretion; chaperone; translocation; regulation; lcrGVHyopBD; pcrGVHpopBD; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : In order to establish colonisation of a human host, pathogenic Yersinia use a type III protein secretion system to directly intoxicate host immune cells. Activation of this system requires target cell contact and is a highly regulated process. LÄS MER
