  1. 6. Molecular regulation of vascular cambium identity and activity

    Författare :Melis Kucukoglu; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In plants, secondary development and wood formation originates from the cell divisions within the vascular meristem, where the vascular stem cells are located. This thesis work presents my results on the molecular regulation of vascular cambium stem cell identity and activity. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Cell wall chemotyping for functional genomics : applications of pyrolysis-gas chromatography / mass spectrometry

    Författare :Lorenz Gerber; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The interest in lignocellulose as a sustainable resource for energy and materials has fueled research on biotechnology applications in tree breeding to improve biomass production and wood properties. An important aspect of this research is the basic understanding of gene function in wood formation, where analysis of wood chemistry and wood structure is of utmost importance. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Modification of forest trees by genetic engineering : from design to the field

    Författare :Evgeniy Donev; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Developing viable genetic engineering methods for cell wall modification in trees is important to improve in a timely manner the properties of lignocellulose for biorefinery applications. New wood cell wall functionalities can be introduced by altered expression of native enzymes or by expressing microbial enzymes in planta. LÄS MER

  4. 9. New insights into growth cessation and dormancy in trees

    Författare :Lars Resman; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Since trees are sessile they have evolved elaborate mechanisms that anticipate oncoming winter and allow the trees to withstand extreme changes in their environment. Trees need to stop growth and initiate cold hardiness well before cold temperatures become damaging, consequently the timings of growth cessation and dormancy are important adaptive traits for their ability to survive in harsh winter conditions.
