  1. 1. Artificial Ground Freezingin Clayey Soils : Laboratory and Field Studies of Deformations During Thawing at the Bothnia Line

    Författare :Teddy Johansson; Staffan Hintze; Håkan Stille; Sven Knutsson; Kauko Kujala; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Artificial ground freezing; AGF; thaw deformation; deformation; thawing; frost heaving; Bothnia Line.; Artificiell markfrysning; artificiell jord- och bergfrysning; AGF; tiningsdeformation; deformation; tining; tjälhävning; Botniabanan; Geoengineering; Geoteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Artificial ground freezing as a method to temporarily stabilize and create hydraulic sealing in urban as well as in rural areas has been used in a number of Swedish construction projects, particularly during the last decade. One problem with the freezing of soil and rock is that fine-grained clayey types of soils have showed a tendency to under certain circumstances, during the thawing process, create a pore water overpressure and to consolidate, despite a change in the external loading conditions. 2. 2. Compaction and thaw deformation of frozen soil : permeability and structural effects due to freezing and thawing

    Författare :Peter Viklander; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is the result of the two projects:"Deformations in winter compacted soils" and "Permeability changes in a fine-grained till due to freeze/thaw". The aim of the first project was to study whether it is possible to compact frozen soils, in road embankments etc. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Moisture Influence on Structural Behaviour of Pavements : Field and Laboratory Investigations

    Författare :Farhad Salour; Sigurdur Erlingsson; Guy Doré; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Falling Weight Deflectometer FWD ; backcalculation; unbound material; subgrade; seasonal variation; moisture content; spring-thaw; drainage; pavement stiffness; field test; pavement instrumentation; resilient modulus; permanent deformation; repeated load triaxial test; unsaturated soil; matric suction.; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap; Transportvetenskap; Transport Science;

    Sammanfattning : The structural behaviour of pavements in cold regions can considerably be affected by seasonal variation in environmental factors such as temperature and moisture content. Along with the destructive effect of heavy traffic loads, climatic and environmental factors can considerably contribute to pavement deterioration. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Mechanical Properties of Residues as Unbound Road Materials - experimental tests on MSWI bottom ash, crushed concrete and blast furnace slag

    Författare :Maria Arm; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :residues; unbound materials; MSWI bottom ash; crushedconcrete; blast furnace slag; mechanical properties;

    Sammanfattning : For recycled aggregates and industrial by-products to beused correctly in road construction, it is necessary to knowtheir properties. Existing material specifications and testmethods for aggregates used in Sweden and in many othercountries are indirect and are based on empiricism. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Stabilization-solidification of high water content dredged sediment : Strength, compressibility and durability evaluations

    Författare :Gregory Makusa; Kauko Kujala; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Dredging activities at ports and harbors are inevitable for safe navigation of ships and vessels. The outcomes of dredging are huge volumes of dredged materials, which can range from very fine and contaminated sediments to sands and gravels. The coarse sands and gravels can be directly used in civil engineering applications. LÄS MER
