  1. 16. The Fight on the Flights : Emergency evacuations – human physiological performance, leg muscle activity and gait biomechanics during exhaustive stair and slope ascent

    Författare :Amitava Halder; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Stair climbing evacuation; Physical work capacity; Physiological constraints; Endurance; Energy expenditure; Oxygen consumption; Electromyography; Muscle fatigue; Incline gait biomechanics; Ground reaction forces; Required coefficient of friction;

    Sammanfattning : Physical exhaustion can constrain stair ascending capacity during emergency evacuation. The overall aim of this research was to explore and compare stair ascending capacities and physiological limitations when using two different modes: 1) self-preferred pace on three different public stairways, and 2) four machine-controlled paces on a stair machine corresponding to different percentages of maximal aerobic capacity (V̇O2max). 2. 17. Kinematics and Internal Deformation of Granular Slopes

    Författare :Zhina Liu; Hemin Koyi; Dominique Frizon de Lamotte; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; granular flow; kinematics; internal deformation; particle flow method; analogue modeling; natural landslides; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : Flow-like mass movement is the most destructive landslide and causes loss of lives and substantial property damage throughout the world every year. This thesis focuses on the spatial and temporal changes of the mass movement in terms of velocity and displacement within the failure mass, and the spatial and temporal distribution of the three dimensional internal deformation of the granular slopes using discrete element method, physical experiments, and natural landslides. 3. 18. In Situ Stress Conditions Across Clay Slopes. A Study Comprising Seven Test Sites

    Författare :Karin Rankka; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The in situ stress conditions in clay slopes differ mainly depending on the stability of the slope, the soil properties, the pore pressure situation and also on which part of the slope is studied. The objective of the study is to investigate the in situ stress conditions in slopes and how they vary with seasonal variations in pore pressures and external loading conditions, such as the excavation and filling of earth material. 4. 19. Regolith Properties of Mercury Derived from Observations and Modelling

    Författare :Johan Warell; Nick Thomas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; Mercury; Moon; imaging; photometry; spectroscopy; regolith; space weathering; light scattering; spectral modelling; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; astronomi; Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : The properties of Mercury's regolith have been investigated at optical and near-infrared wavelengths with high-resolution imaging, photometric, and spectroscopic observations with the Swedish Vacuum Solar Telescope and the Nordic Optical Telescope. A new global optical map at a spatial resolution of 200 km shows that the well known (from Mariner 10) and poorly known hemispheres are indistinguishable with respect to the distribution, number density, and morphological parameters of bright albedo features. 5. 20. Palaeosurfaces and palaeovalleys on North Atlantic previously glaciated passive margins : reference forms for conclusions on uplift and erosion

    Författare :Johan M. Bonow; Karna Lidmar-Bergström; Clas Hättestrand; Jens-Ove Näslund; Mats Olvmo; Adrian Hall; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; palaeosurface; palaeovalley; uplift; valley; incision; glacial erosion; weathering; Neogene; southern Norway; West Greenland; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Palaeosurfaces and palaeovalleys are landforms under destruction in the present climate and/or tectonic regime, and thus mainly reflect processes not active today. Uplifted palaeosurfaces exist along the formerly glaciated passive continental margins around the North Atlantic. LÄS MER
