  1. 1. Regolith Properties of Mercury Derived from Observations and Modelling

    Författare :Johan Warell; Nick Thomas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; Mercury; Moon; imaging; photometry; spectroscopy; regolith; space weathering; light scattering; spectral modelling; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; astronomi; Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : The properties of Mercury's regolith have been investigated at optical and near-infrared wavelengths with high-resolution imaging, photometric, and spectroscopic observations with the Swedish Vacuum Solar Telescope and the Nordic Optical Telescope. A new global optical map at a spatial resolution of 200 km shows that the well known (from Mariner 10) and poorly known hemispheres are indistinguishable with respect to the distribution, number density, and morphological parameters of bright albedo features. 2. 2. Solar Wind Proton Interactions with Lunar Magnetic Anomalies and Regolith

    Författare :Charles Lue; Yoshifumi Futaana; Stas Barabash; Urs Mall; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; the Moon; solar wind; magnetic anomalies; regolith; space physics; plasma physics; particle-surface interactions; mini-magnetospheres; energetic neutral atoms; Space Physics; rymdfysik;

    Sammanfattning : The lunar space environment is shaped by the interaction between the Moon and the solar wind. In the present thesis, we investigate two aspects of this interaction, namely the interaction between solar wind protons and lunar crustal magnetic anomalies, and the interaction between solar wind protons and lunar regolith. 3. 3. Subsurface dams in water resource management : methods for assessment and location

    Författare :Imran Ali Jamali; Bo Olofsson; Stephen Foster; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Subsurface dams; Groundwater; GIS; Regolith thickness; Groundwater; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Natural groundwater storage can be improved by constructing a subsurface barrier that is a subsurface dam, in order to capture the subsurface flows and raise the groundwater levels (GWLs) in the sediment layers. Subsurface dams are preferable to surface dams because of lower evaporation, higher functionality, lower cost of construction, lessened risk for contamination and the possibility of utilizing land over the dam. 4. 4. A planetary chamber to investigate the thermal and water cycle on Mars

    Författare :Abhilash Vakkada Ramachandran; María-Paz Zorzano; Javier Martin-Torres; Akos Kereszturi; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mars; space chamber; ISRU; water cycle simulation; pure liquid water; habitability; heat transfer; Atmospheric science; Atmosfärsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The water processes that affect the upper layers of the surface of Mars are not yet fully understood. Describing the processes that may induce changes in the water content ofthe surface is critical to determine the present-day habitability of the Martian surface,understand the atmospheric water cycle, and estimate the efficiency of future water extraction procedures from the regolith for In-Situ-Resource-Utilization (ISRU). 5. 5. Relict non-glacial surfaces and autochthonous blockfields in the northern Swedish mountains

    Författare :Bradley W. Goodfellow; Arjen Stroeven; Clas Hättestrand; Johan Kleman; Krister Jansson; Adrian Hall; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; blockfield; chemical weathering; cosmogenic exposure dating; glaciated landscape; northern Sweden; periglacial geomorphology; relict surface; Physical geography; Naturgeografi; geografi med naturgeografisk inriktning; Geography; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Relict non-glacial surfaces occur in many formerly glaciated landscapes, where they represent areas that have escaped significant glacial modification. Frequently distinguished by blockfield mantles, relict non-glacial surfaces are important archives of long-term weathering and landscape evolution processes. LÄS MER
