  1. 1. Spatial variability of geogenic contaminants in drinking water sources : Insights into hydrogeological controls, geospatial data for safe water supply and groundwater resource management

    Författare :J. Ijumulana; Prosun Bhattacharya; Felix Mtalo; Steve W. Lyon; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drinking water; geogenic contaminants; potentially toxic elements; fluoride; spatial analysis; spatial variability; Tanzania; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The presence of geogenic contaminants in drinking water is a major health concern in many parts of the world. The interaction of groundwater with different rock types and sediments in the natural geochemical environment play an important role in controlling their mobility. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Spatial and temporal dynamics of subarctic birch forest carbon exchange

    Författare :Michal Heliasz; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mountain birch; eddy covariance; carbon budget; insect outbreak; forest expansion; temporal variability; spatial variability;

    Sammanfattning : High northern latitudes are of special importance for the global carbon budget as they store large amounts of organic matter in the soil and are expected to be the most strongly affected by climate change. Here we investigate carbon exchange in the subarctic mountain birch forest growing on the limit where tree growth is possible. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Hydrogeochemistry and spatial variability of arsenic and other trace elements in the Lower Katari Basin around Lake Titicaca, Bolivian Altiplano. : Impact on drinking water quality and groundwater management

    Författare :Israel Quino Lima; Prosun Bhattacharya; Jerker Jarsjö; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arsenic; trace elements; multivariate analysis; spatial variability; hydrogeology; spatio-temporal variability; Lower Katari Basin; Bolivian Altiplano; alluvial sediments; Arsenik; spårelement; multivariat analys; rumslig variabilitet; hydrogeologi; spatio-temporär variation; Nedre Katari-bassängen; Bolivian Altiplano; alluviala sediment; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Arsenic (As) contamination in drinking water is a world-wide problem. Thenatural origin of As, its mobility and transport are of great interest in BolivianAltiplano (Lower Katari Basin: LKB and Sothern Poopó Basin: SPB) due topresence of mineral ore deposits, brines, hot springs and volcanic rocks. 4. 4. Seasonality and variability of stratospheric water vapour

    Författare :Tongmei Wang; Abdel Hannachi; Qiong Zhang; Alexey Karpechko; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stratospheric water vapour; seasonality; variability; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : Stratospheric water vapour (SWV) plays a critical role in the climate system by modulating the radiation budget and influencing the stratospheric chemistry. Studying changes of SWV on global scale is helpful for our understanding of climate change. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Groundwater resources in hard rock coastal terrains : Insights into heterogeneity and spatial variability

    Författare :Robert Earon; Bo Olofsson; Okke Batelaan; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Crystalline Rock; Groundwater Balance; Kinematic porosity; Groundwater Recharge; Water Security; Coastal Aquifer; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Challenges regarding water security in hard rock coastal regions with limited soil cover are: a seasonal absence of recharge during times of peak residency, heterogeneity and variability of the fracture network, close proximity to saline water sources and spatially inconsistent storage and extraction. In areas where it is not feasible to connect residents to municipal water systems, a better understanding of the resilience of reservoirs is needed. LÄS MER
