  1. 1. Forest decline in South Central Ethiopia : Extent, history and process

    Författare :Gessesse Dessie; Carl Christiansson; Johan Kleman; Peter Kinlund; Mats Widgren; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Forest decline; people-forest interaction; boundaries; khat expansion; remote sensing; social survey; south central Ethiopia; Awassa watershed; Wondo Genet; Physical geography; Naturgeografi; geografi med naturgeografisk inriktning; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : This study presents the extent, history and process of forest decline in Awassa watershed, south central Ethiopia. By combining different data sources such as satellite images, social surveys and historical documents, forest decline is described quantitatively and qualitatively and the main causes behind this process are identified. 2. 2. Felling Forests from Afar: Quantifying Deforestation Driven by Agricultural Expansion and International Trade

    Författare :Florence Pendrill; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Forest transitions; Land cover; Carbon footprints; Agriculture; Forestry; Carbon emissions; Land use; International trade; Deforestation;

    Sammanfattning : Deforestation is a major source of human-caused greenhouse gas emissions and the largest threat to terrestrial biodiversity. Most forest loss is due to the expansion of agricultural land use increasingly driven by international demand for food, fuel and fibre. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Strain Gradient Plasticity Modelling of Precipitation Strengthening

    Författare :Mohammadali Asgharzadeh; Jonas Faleskog; Samuel Forest; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : The introduction of particles and precipitates into a matrix material results in strengthening effects. The two main mechanisms involved in this matter are referred to as Orowan and shearing. To numerically study this phenomenon is the motivation to the research done, which is presented here in this thesis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Norrlands ekonomi i stöpsleven : ekonomisk expansion, stapelvaruproduktion och maritima näringar 1760-1812

    Författare :Maurits Nyström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; economic history; Northern Sweden; eighteenth and nineteenth century; forest-based staple production; trade; shipping; merchant fleet; shipbuilding; proto-industrialization; economic expansion; conflicts of interests;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation investigates whether northern Sweden's forest-based staple production and maritime activities were increased and altered in any significant ways prior to the expansion which began just before the middle of the nineteenth century. Furthermore, it studies whether certain changes contributed to thecreation of preconditions for the named expansion. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Where have all the forests gone? Quantifying pantropical deforestation drivers

    Författare :Florence Pendrill; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon footprints; International trade; Deforestation; Consumption-based accounting; Forest transitions; Telecoupling; Agriculture; Land use change; Carbon emissions; Land system science;

    Sammanfattning : Deforestation across the tropics continues to be a major source of greenhouse gas emissions and the largest threat to biodiversity on land. With strengthened commitments to reduce deforestation from countries and companies alike, it is crucial that renewed investments for reducing deforestation be guided by a sound understanding of what drives deforestation.
