1. Multiscale methods for the fundamental understanding of diesel soot mitigation
Sammanfattning : Current regulations for diesel exhaust emissions cannot be met by engine improvements alone, and for this reason the diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a widely used aftertreatment component for the control of diesel particulate matter (PM). The DPF functions by trapping PM and destroying it by oxidation. LÄS MER
2. Optical investigations and characterization of soot of different morphology and maturity
Sammanfattning : The formation path from small poorly absorbing incipient soot to larger fractal-like strongly absorbing black soot is extensive, and along this path the optical and physicochemical properties of the soot evolve. Soot emitted into the atmosphere may originate from some stage of this process, which will result in a wide spectrum of carbonaceous aerosols in the atmosphere which may interact with the sun and influence the radiative balance of the earth. 3. Laser-Induced Incandescence for Soot Diagnostics: Theoretical Investigation and Experimental Development
Sammanfattning : Laser-induced incandescence, LII, is a laser-diagnostic technique that can be used to measure the volume fraction and the sizes of soot particles suspended in a gas, such as within a combustion process or in its exhausts. The technique is based on the facts that the time-decay of the radiation from laser-heated soot particles is directly related to the particle size in the probed volume, and that the time-integrated radiation is related to the soot volume fraction. 4. Detailed Soot Modelling in Laminar and Turbulent Reacting Flows
Sammanfattning : In the present work a detailed kinetic soot model is applied to study the formation and oxidation of soot particles in laminar premixed and turbulent non-premixed flames. The soot model used in this study is based on a detailed description of the chemical and physical processes involved in the formation of soot. LÄS MER
5. Characterization of soot in air and rain over southern Asia
Sammanfattning : Filter-based optical measurements of light absorbing particulate matter at awavelength of about 550 nm, here referred to as soot, in air and rainwaterhave been performed during the period from 1st June 2005 to 31th May 2009at Godavari in Nepal, Sinhagad in India and Hanimaadhoo in The Maldives.A method for determination of water-insoluble light absorbing matter inrainwater has been developed.
