  1. 31. Global Climatology and Regional Modeling of Coastal Low-Level Jets

    Författare :Muhammad Raza Ranjha; Michael Tjernström; Gunilla Svensson; Branko Grisogono; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coastal low-level jets; climatology; regional modeling; boundary layer; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : Localized coast-parallel wind-speed maxima at low altitude, known as coastal low-level jets (CLLJs) have important ramifications to the coastal climate and a number of human activities. This thesis documents the existence of the CLLJs around the globe including their mesoscale structure, dynamics and spatio-temporal variability. LÄS MER

  2. 32. Isotopic and Molecular Characterization of Incomplete Combustion Products in sub-Saharan Africa

    Författare :Leonard Kirago; Örjan Gustafsson; Samuel Gaita; Sophie Haslett; Antti Hyvärinen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Air pollution; climate change; savanna; Nairobi; black carbon; Environmental Sciences; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) is a global hotspot for incomplete combustion emissions from large-scale savanna fires, agricultural burning and growing city emissions. However, air pollution is understudied in the SSA region, resulting in a gap in the scientific understanding of regional emissions, source contributions, and impacts of air pollutants on regional climate and health. 3. 33. Holocene carbon and nitrogen accumulation rates and contemporary carbon export in discharge : a study from a boreal fen catchment

    Författare :Anna Larsson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The contemporary role of mires in land-atmosphere exchange of carbon dioxide (CO₂) is the subject of intense scientific debate. Investigating patterns and mechanisms of variations in past carbon (C) accumulation rates as well as contemporary C fluxes of peatlands facilitates predictions of future mire C sink strength under a changing climate. 4. 34. Microalgal solutions in Nordic conditions : industries transition toward resource recovery?

    Författare :Lina Mattsson; Catherine Legrand; Elin Lindehoff; Hanna Farnelid; Kristian Spilling; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microalgae; algal cultivation; polyculture; resource recovery; seasonal variation; industrial partnership; CO2 mitigation; nitrogen removal; community composition; Ecology; Ekologi; Environmental Biotechnology; Miljöbioteknik; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Microalgal solutions can through photosynthesis recover greenhouse gas (CO2) and nutrients from industrial waste, reducing climate footprint and eutrophication. An added value to the process is algal biomass containing lipids, proteins, and carbohydrates with commercial potential for biofuel, feed, and fertilizer. LÄS MER

  5. 35. Risk and Rates of Time Preferences of Farm Households in Ethiopia: Implications on land investment decisions

    Författare :Mahmud Yesuf; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Summary Paper 1: Risk Preferences of Farm Households in Ethiopia: Implications to Land Investment Decisions This paper measures farmers' attitude towards risk using an experimental approach for a sample of 262 farm households in Ethiopian highlands. We find more than 50 percent of the households in severe to extreme risk aversion category, unlike similar studies in Asia, where the vast majorities are found under moderate to intermediate risk aversion category.
