  1. 1. A study of the structure and dynamics of Saturn's inner plasma disk

    Författare :Mika Holmberg; Jan-Erik Wahlund; Nikolai Piskunov; Svetlana Ratynskaia; Thomas Cravens; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Planetary magnetospheres; Saturn; magnetospheric dynamics; Saturn s inner plasma disk; ring plasma; ion densities; ion velocities; dayside nightside asymmetry; ion loss rates; Cassini; Langmuir probe; RPWS; Space Physics; Rymdfysik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a study of the inner plasma disk of Saturn. The results are derived from measurements by the instruments on board the Cassini spacecraft, mainly the Cassini Langmuir probe (LP), which has been in orbit around Saturn since 2004. LÄS MER

    Författare :Jon Grumer; Matematisk fysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; atomstruktur; atomära processer; elektronkorrelation; plasmaspektroskopi; magnetfält; hyperfinstruktur; solkoronan; rymdväder; förekomst av grundämnen i stjärnor; datorsimuleringar; Zeemaneffekt; relativistiska effekter; atomic structure; atomic processes; computer simulation; electron correlation; relativistic atomic theory; plasma spectroscopy; Zeeman effect; magnetic fields; hyperfine structure; solar corona; space weather; stellar abundances; Fysicumarkivet A:2016:Grumer;

    Sammanfattning : Motivated by spectroscopic analysis of astrophysical and laboratory plasma, this thesis concerns the fundamental structure and spectral properties of atoms and their ions. The multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) method is used to predict the emission or absorption of radiation, by atomic systems in general, and of heavy and highly charged ions in particular. 3. 3. Plasma and dust interaction in the magnetosphere of Saturn

    Författare :Jonas Olson; Svetlana Ratynskaia; Carmine Castaldo; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; saturn; dusty plasma;

    Sammanfattning : The Cassini spacecraft orbits Saturn since 2004, carrying a multitude of instruments for studies of the plasma environment around the planet as well as the constituents of the ring system. Of particular interest to the present thesis is the large E ring, which consists mainly of water ice grains, smaller than a few micrometres, referred to as dust. LÄS MER

  4. 4. In vivo analysis of amino acid permease folding in yeast

    Författare :Andreas Ring; Per O. Ljungdahl; George Diallinas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nutrient sensing; signal transduction; endoprotease; subcellular fractionation; membrane-localized chaperone; amino acid permease; endoplasmic reticulum; membrane protein folding; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; Cell Biology; cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Plasma membrane (PM) proteins are critical for cells to respond to environmental cues, such as the availability of nutrients. The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is able to sense extracellular amino acids using the SPS sensing system. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Diving Deep into Saturn's Equatorial Ionosphere with Cassini : Insights from the Grand Finale

    Författare :Joshua Dreyer; Erik Vigren; Michiko Morooka; Jan-Erik Wahlund; Ingo Müller-Wodarg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Saturn; Cassini; Grand Finale; Ionosphere; Photochemistry; Planetary Rings; Planetary Science; Space Plasma; Space Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot rymd- och plasmafysik; Physics with specialization in Space and Plasma Physics;

    Sammanfattning : In the summer of 2017, the Cassini mission concluded its nearly 13 years orbiting Saturn with a series of daring dives between the rings and the upper reaches of Saturn's atmosphere. This last phase of the mission, called the Grand Finale, revealed a highly variable equatorial ionosphere dominated by a large influx of ring material from Saturn's D ring. LÄS MER
