  1. 1. Optimization of Low-Level Controllers and High-Level Polymer Grade Changes

    Författare :Per-Ola Larsson; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; process control; PID control; robustness; noise sensitivity; dynamic optimization; polymerization; Modelica;

    Sammanfattning : Two design problems at different levels in the control hierarchy are considered; optimization of robust low-level controllers with constrained control signal activity and optimization of economical high-level polyethylene grade changes. As for the first design problem, a constraint on control signal activity due to measurement noise is presented and used when optimizing and comparing PI/PID controllers with measurement filters of different orders. 2. 2. Control of oscillatory thermocapillary convection

    Författare :Junichiro Shiomi; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Fluid mechanics; control; thermocapillary convection;

    Sammanfattning : The possibility to stabilize the oscillatory thermocapillaryconvection is demonstrated using a proportional feedbackcontrol. This topic has a strong industrial motivation inconnection with a container-less crystal growth method calledthe floating-zone technique. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On Real-Time Optimization using Extremum Seeking Control and Economic Model Predictive Control : With Applications to Bioreactors and Paper Machines

    Författare :Olle Trollberg; Elling Jacobsen; Sigurd Skogestad; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Real-Time Optimization; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Process optimization is used to improve the utility and the economic performance of industrial processes, and is as such central in most automation strategies. In this thesis, two feedback-based methods for online process optimization are considered: Extremum seeking control (ESC), a classic model-free method used for steady-state optimization which dates back to the early 1900's, and economic model predictive control (EMPC), a more recent method which utilizes a model to dynamically optimize the closed-loop process economics in real time. 4. 4. Optimizing Ocean Feature Estimation and Tracking through Adaptive Sampling and Formation Control of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles

    Författare :Joana Filipa Gouveia Fonseca; Karl H. Johansson; Nina Mahmoudian; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Increased ocean temperatures caused by climate change are expected to lead to more frequent and severe harmful algal blooms, which deteriorate water quality, cause human illness and fish mortality. Scientific understanding of algal blooms and their dynamics is limited due to the lack of data from such ocean phenomena. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Application-oriented experiment design for industrial model predictive control

    Författare :Christian A. Larsson; Håkan Hjalmarsson; Vladimir Havlena; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Advanced process control and its prevalent enabling technology, model predictive control (MPC), can today be regarded as the industry best practice for optimizing production. The strength of MPC comes from the ability to predict the impact of disturbances and counteract their effects with control actions, and from the ability to account for constraints. LÄS MER
