  1. 1. Biomimetic Reactions : Water Oxidation and Aerobic Oxidation

    Författare :Lien-Hoa Tran; Björn Åkermark; Nina Kann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cobalt II salophen; oxygen-activating catalyst; hybrid; manganese complex; epoxidation; water oxidation.; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals mainly with two oxidation reactions: water oxidation and aerobic oxidation, both of which have been applied in a biomimetic fashion. In the former reaction molecular oxygen is generated whereas in the latter it was used as terminal oxidant in oxidation reactions. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Chemical Modification of Cellulose Fibres and Fibrils for Design of New Materials

    Författare :Verónica López Durán; Lars Wågberg; Per A. Larsson; Akira Isogai; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; borohydride reduction; cellulose-based materials; chemical modification; chlorite oxidation; fibres; fibrils; periodate oxidation; TEMPO oxidation; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Sammanfattning : Due to the growing interest in biobased materials in today’s society, where the need for a cyclic economy is obvious, there has been a huge increase in the  interest for using cellulose due to its excellent mechanical and chemical properties. However, the properties of cellulose have to be modified and improved in order to satisfy advanced material applications where the cellulose properties can be tuned to fit the properties of other components in composite mixtures. 3. 3. Allylic alcohols and aziridines from alkenes : Studies in asymmetric catalysis

    Författare :Mikael J. Södergren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Enantioselective; allylic alcohols; epoxide rearrangement; lithium amides; desymmetrization; kinetic resolution; allylic oxidation; alkenes; aziridination; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The development of methodology for asymmetric catalytic transformation of alkenederivatives is summarized. The studies concern the [a] Cu(I)-catalyzed allylic oxidation,[b] isomerization of epoxides to allyl alcohols, and [c] Cu(I)-catalyzed alkeneaziridination, respectively.[a] The preparation of exo-2-azabicyclo[2.2. 4. 4. Catalysts for Oxygen Production and Utilization : Closing the Oxygen Cycle: From Biomimetic Oxidation to Artificial Photosynthesis

    Författare :Erik Karlsson; Jan-Erling Bäckvall; Björn Åkermark; Jerker Mårtensson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; oxygen; catalytic oxidation; biomimetic oxidation; artificial photosynthesis; water oxidation; DFT calculations; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development and study of catalysts for redox reactions, which either utilize oxygen or hydrogen peroxide for the purpose of selectively oxidizing organic substrates, or produce oxygen as the necessary byproduct in the production of hydrogen by artificial photosynthesis.The first chapter gives a general introduction about the use of environmentally friendly oxidants in the field of organic synthesis, and about the field of artificial photosynthesis. 5. 5. Studies of Biomimtic Oxidations and Racemizations

    Författare :Gábor Csjernyik; Jan-Erling Bäckvall; Serafino Gladiali; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; oxidation of alcohols; ruthenium; porphyrin; racemization;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with studies of ruthenium-catalyzed hydrogen transfer reactions for oxidations and racemization.Through optimisation of the substrate-selective redox catalyst, the electron and proton transfer mediator (a benzoquinone derivative), and the oxygen-activating metal macrocycle a highly efficient biomimetic oxidation of secondary alcohols was obtained.
