1. Synthesis and Energy Transfer Studies of a Donor-Host-Acceptor Triad
Sammanfattning : This dissertation describes the synthesis of a donor-host-acceptor triad, D-H-A, and its self-assembly into a well-ordered dimer. The energy transfer (EnT) properties of D-H-A as it is, in the presence of a variety of guest molecules and in the dimeric form are presented. LÄS MER
2. Synthesis and optical characterization of optical power limiting platinum(II) acetylides
Sammanfattning : Interactions between light and a molecule can result in reversible or irreversible changes in properties of both the light and the molecule. Of the many known interactions, nonlinear absorption is a process in which an intense light signal, for instance from a laser, can be moderated. LÄS MER
3. Catalysts for Oxygen Production and Utilization : Closing the Oxygen Cycle: From Biomimetic Oxidation to Artificial Photosynthesis
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development and study of catalysts for redox reactions, which either utilize oxygen or hydrogen peroxide for the purpose of selectively oxidizing organic substrates, or produce oxygen as the necessary byproduct in the production of hydrogen by artificial photosynthesis. The first chapter gives a general introduction about the use of environmentally friendly oxidants in the field of organic synthesis, and about the field of artificial photosynthesis. 4. Synthesis of donor–acceptor–donor thiophene based ligands that can be utilized for optical assignment of pathological targets
Sammanfattning : Thiophene based ligands represent a class of molecular reporters proven superior in discerning pathological targets involved in neurodegenerative diseases, as well as bacterial infection. By fluorometric detection that depends on the milieu surrounding the ligand these biological processes can be studied with fluorescence spectroscopy and hyper-spectral confocal microscopy. LÄS MER
5. Modulation of Molecular Properties : Host–Guest Interactions for Structural Analysis and Chemical Reactions
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the construction, use and modulation of various host–guest systems, from small bispidines for binding of inorganic ions to bisporphyrin clips for supramolecular systems.Small flexible molecules undergo fast conformational movements when in solution. LÄS MER
