1. Pikeivory: behavioural mechanisms in northern pike piscivory
Sammanfattning : Optimal foraging and prey preference in top predators may affect population and community dynamics and structure. Also, optimal foraging and prey preference may shift with prevailing conditions, and therefore create changes in the effect of predation. LÄS MER
2. Assessing and monitoring genetic patterns for conservation purposes with special emphasis on Scandinavia
Sammanfattning : Genetic variation is essential for biological evolution, for maintaining viability of populations, and to ensure ecosystem resilience. Increased human exploitation and environmental change result in rapid loss of biological variation, including genetic diversity. LÄS MER
3. Characterization of xenobiotic metabolism in the feral teleost northern pike (Esox lucius)
Sammanfattning : A basic characterization of xenobiotic metabolism in the feral teleost Northern pike has been performed. The different aspects of concern have been:a) investigation of the uptake and distribution to different body compartments of the carcinogen and environmental pollutant benzo(a)pyrene using whole-body autoradiography and scintillation counting. 4. Population genetic patterns in continuous environments in relation to conservation management
Sammanfattning : Genetic variation is a prerequisite for the viability and evolution of species. Information on population genetic patterns on spatial and temporal scales is therefore important for effective management and for protection of biodiversity. LÄS MER
5. ³²P-postlabelling analysis of DNA adducts in fish as a biomarker of genotoxic exposure
Sammanfattning : The 32P-postlabelling assay was used for analysis of hydrophobic DNA adducts in fish as a biomarker of genotoxic exposure. DNA adducts were analysed in perch (Perca fluviatilis) and northern pike (Esox lucius), two relatively stationary fish species which are common in Swedish freshwater systems and along the Baltic coast.
