16. Investigation of a Biofilm Reactor Model with Suspended Biomass
Sammanfattning : Biofilms are compact, sessile microbial communities that attach to surfaces in aqueous environments. In wastewater treatment, they are especially important for removal of phosphorus and nitrogen, which, if released into a receiving water body, can cause severe eutrophication. LÄS MER
17. On Modeling the Dynamics of Fixed Biofilm Reactors. With focus on nitrifying trickling filters
Sammanfattning : Fixed biofilms, which are matrix-enclosed populations of organisms attached to solid surfaces, are increasingly used in environmental biotechnology processes, such as the treatment of potable water and wastewater. This thesis aims to give some insight into the dynamic modeling of biofilms and fixed biofilm reactors, with a focus on nitrifying trickling filters (NTFs) for the treatment of wastewater. LÄS MER
18. Development and Application of Rotational Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Spectroscopy and Laser-induced Fluorescence for Combustion Diagnostics
Sammanfattning : The thesis concerns the development and application of two laser-based methods for combustion diagnostics: dual broadband rotational coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS) and laser-induced fluorescence (LIF). In efforts to increase the usefulness of the CARS technique, the applicability of a method involving a combination of the rotational CARS technique and the closely related vibrational CARS technique was investigated. 19. Interactions between plants, microbes and insects
Sammanfattning : Plants interact with an astonishing diversity of insects and microorganisms. Both above- and belowground, plants are attacked by herbivores and pathogens, and interact with mutualists such as pollinating insects and beneficial microorganisms. LÄS MER
20. New Perspectives in Multi-trophic Aquaculture
Sammanfattning : Aquaculture, the farming of marine and aquatic organisms, is currently the fastest growing food production sector globally. As capture fisheries have stagnated and the fishing down of marine food webs has been seen to be unsustainable, aquaculture is filling the deficit in providing food to a growing world population.
