1. Evolutionary optimisation of a morphological image processor for embedded systems
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis concerns the design, development and implementation of two digital components to be used, primarily, in autonomously operating embedded systems, such as mobile robots. The first component is an image coprocessor, for high-speed morphological image processing, and the second is a hardware-based genetic algorithm coprocessor, which provides evolutionary computation functionality for embedded applications. 2. Adaptive tensor-based morphological filtering and analysis of 3D profile data
Sammanfattning : Image analysis methods for processing 3D profile data have been investigated and developed. These methods include; Image reconstruction by prioritized incremental normalized convolution, morphology-based crack detection for steel slabs, and adaptive morphology based on the local structure tensor. 3. Evolution of the G protein-coupled receptor signaling system : Genomic and phylogenetic analyses
Sammanfattning : Signal transduction pathways mediated by G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and their intracellular coupling partners, the heterotrimeric G proteins, are crucial for several physiological functions in eukaryotes, including humans. This thesis describes a broad genomic survey and extensive comparative phylogenetic analysis of GPCR and G protein families from a wide selection of eukaryotes. LÄS MER
4. Airway epithelial shedding: Morphological and functional aspects in vivo
Sammanfattning : Epithelial damage may contribute to the pathology in airway diseases such as asthma and rhinitis. However, the distribution of epithelial shedding in inflammatory airway diseases and, particularly, the ensuing repair processes are largely unknown. LÄS MER
5. Landerierna i Göteborgs stadsbyggande
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the relationship between town planning and the /landerier/* in Göteborg by using historical morphological analysis combined with geographical information systems (GIS). The growth of the /landerier/, gradually leased out after the city foundation in 1621 on the so-called donation land, is analyzed and described. LÄS MER
