1. Metal Cluster Reactivity. Adsorption of small molecules in biomolecular collisions
Sammanfattning : Metal clusters can be characterized as the tiniest possible metal particles, containing only an easily counted number of atoms. In this work, reactions between metal clusters and diatomic molecules have been investigated. We have constructed an experimental set-up to produce and detect clusters, and to investigate their chemical reactivity. LÄS MER
2. Reactivity of Metal Clusters with Diatomic Molecules
Sammanfattning : The reactivity of transition-metal clusters, in the approximate size range 10-60 atoms, with diatomic molecules has been investigated. A pulsed beam of neutral clusters is produced by a laser-vaporization source and passed through a low-pressure reaction cell containing the reactive gas. LÄS MER
3. Coordination of Phosphine-Thioether Ligands to Low-valent Metal Centers
Sammanfattning : The reactivity of the phosphine-thioether ligands bis(2-diphenylphosphino) ethylthio)ethane (PSSP), bis(2-(diphenylphosphino) ethyl)sulfane (PSP), PPh2CH2CH2SMe (PS), PPh2(o-C6H4SMe (PortoS), and PPh(o-C6H4SMe)2 (PSS) towards low-valent carbonyl clusters has been studied. In all structurally characterized clusters, the ligand donor atoms are terminally coordinated. LÄS MER
4. Cluster-Based Catalysts for Asymmetric Synthesis
Sammanfattning : In this work, the synthesis and characterisation of new low-valence transition metal carbonyl clusters, and an investigation into their viability to act as catalysts/catalyst precursors in asymmetric synthesis, are described. Carbonyl clusters based on ruthenium and osmium have been tested as (pre)catalysts for asymmetric hydrogenation of alpha-unsaturated carboxylic acids, and cobalt carbonyl clusters have been used as (pre)catalysts in (asymmetric) Pauson-Khand synthesis. 5. Surface-Induced Modification of Supported Late Transition Metal Complexes
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis addresses the investigation of the electronic, magnetic, and structural properties of late transition metal complexes supported on various surfaces. The research is aimed at studying the interaction between the molecules and the support, together with the intermolecular interaction. This knowledge is essential e.g. LÄS MER
