1. Molecular epidemiology approach : nested case-control studies in glioma and lymphoid malignancies
Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: Nested case-control studies aim to link molecular markers with a certain outcome. Repeated prediagnostic samples may improve the evaluation of marker-disease associations. However, data regarding the benefit of repeated samples in such studies are sparse. LÄS MER
2. Efficient design and analysis of extended case-control studies
Sammanfattning : The nested case-control design is widely used in epidemiology for its efficiency, as it combines the advantages of both cohort and case-control designs. This design is an extension of the matched case-control design, where the matching variable is the time of occurrence of the outcome. LÄS MER
3. Myocardial infarction and cardiac regulation in relation to vibration exposure
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to assess the possible risk of myocardial infarction in work entailing exposure to vibration, and to study whether there is any relation between short-term exposure to vibration and cardiac regulation. Epidemiological methods were applied to investigate a possible association between occupational exposure to vibration and myocardial infarction. LÄS MER

5. Nonmalignant health effects of arsenic exposure
Sammanfattning : This thesis comprises a series of studies concerning occupational and environmental exposure to arsenic and some novel chronic health effects of this element, namely diabetes mellitus and hypertension.
