6. Determining and Optimizing the Current and Magnetic Field Dependence of Spin-Torque and Spin Hall Nano-Oscillators : Toward Next-Generation Nanoelectronic Devices and Systems
Sammanfattning : Spin-torque and spin Hall nano-oscillators are nanoscale devices (about 100 nm) capable of producing tunable broadband high-frequency microwave signals ranging from 0.1 GHz to over 65 GHz that several research groups trying to reach up to 200 - 300 GHz. LÄS MER
7. Surface characterization and force measurements applied to industrial materials with atomic force microscopy
Sammanfattning : The thesis focuses on the application of force measurements with atomic force microscopy (AFM) on materials with a few surface contacts/asperities and chemically modified surfaces. The technique allows measurements of ultra-small intermolecular and surface forces, down to the piconewton level. LÄS MER
8. Single-Electron Tunneling Spectroscopy in Magnetic Nanoparticles and Molecular Magnets
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with single-electron tunneling in transistor-like devices in which the central electrode is either a metal nanoparticle (possibly ferromagnetic) or a molecular magnet. The investigated systems split into two different categories, depending on the size of the central island. LÄS MER
9. Fractal superconducting resonators for the interrogation of two-level systems
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we use high-Q superconducting thin-film microwave resonators to interact with several types of quantum mechanical two-level systems. Such a resonator is used as the central building block in a cryogenic near-field scanning microwave microscope (NSMM) to reach a completely new regime of NSMM operation. LÄS MER
10. Nanoscale studies of functional materials using scanning probe microscopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with developing suitable modifications ofScanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) for investigations offunctional properties of materials. In order to make itpossible to investigate a number of properties of variousfunctional systemsusing SPM the following new techniques have beendeveloped: A magnetic force microscope (MFM) having capability ofboth dc- and ac-mode detection.
