  1. 16. Preservation of parathyroid function in thyroid and parathyroid surgery

    Författare :Stefan Ander; Göran Åkerström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Human parathyroid glands; vascular supply; parathyroid preservation; laser Doppler flowmetry; iPTH; autotransplantation; xenotransplantation; a thymic mice; angiogenesis; immunohistochemistry; electron microscopy; ultrastructure; autoradiography; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Preservation of normal parathyroid function and calcium homeostasis after operations on the thyroid and parathyroid glands is a difficult assignment in endocrine surgery, and it is crucial to minimise the risks of permanent postoperative hypoparathyroidism. The aim of this thesis was to study the vascular supply of the parathyroid glands and the revascularisation, growth, and function of transplanted parathyroid tissue, in order to add new information about parathyroid preservation. 2. 17. Anal Fistula : Aspects of Aetiology, Diagnosis and Prognosis After Surgical Treatment

    Författare :Ulla-Maria Gustafsson; Wilhelm Graf; Torgny Svenberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Surgery; anal fistula; risk factors; endoanal advancement flap; anal incontinence; endoanal ultrasound; magnetic resonance imaging; gentamicin-collagen; micro perfusion; laser Doppler flowmetry; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with idiopathic anal fistula (n=85) were compared with 215 control subjects, matched for age and sex, through a 180-item questionnaire. Obesity, smoking, constipation and bowel symptoms associated with IBS were more common in the patients. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Gastrointestinal mucosal protective mechanisms : Mudolatory effects of Heliobacter pyroli on the gastric mucus gel barrier and mucosal blood flow in vivo

    Författare :Christer Atuma; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; mucus gel layer; mucosal blood flow; mucus thickness; chronic infection; rat; platelet activating factor; mast cell; nitric oxide; nitric oxide synthase; ketotifen; intra-vital microscopy; microelectrode; laser-Doppler flowmetry; L-NNA; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal mucus gel layer and blood flow are two important mechanisms for protection at the pre-epithelial and sub-epithelial levels, respectively. Helicobacter pylori might circumvent these mechanisms and elicit a chronic inflammatory response with consequent ulcers in the stomach and duodenum. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Colonic pouch anastomosis after rectal excision for cancer

    Författare :Olof Hallböök; Neil J. M. Mortensen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Total mesorectal excision; low anterior resection; colonic pouch; coloanal anastomosis; neorectum; quality of life; laser-Doppler flowmetry; gut peptides; anorectal physiology; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Anastomoses at the level of the pelvic floor will become increasingly more common in rectal cancer surgery when total mesorectal excision is used as a standard procedure to obtain local mdicality. A consequence of such low anastomoses is increased risk of healing disturbances and poor distal bowel function, The aim of this thesis was to focus on reconstruction after total mesorectal excision. 5. 20. Preventing pressure ulcers by assessment of the microcirculation in tissue exposed to pressure

    Författare :Sara Bergstrand; Margareta Lindgren; Anna-Christina Ek; Maria Engström; Lars-Göran Lindberg; Fredrik Huss; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pressure ulcer; photoplethysmography; laser Doppler flowmetry; non-invasive; tissue blood flow; reactive hyperemia; pressure-induced vasodilation; interface pressure; risk assessment;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to combine optical methods into a system with the ability to simultaneously measure blood flow changes at different tissue depths. The goal of such a system was to reveal vascular mechanisms relevant to pressure ulcer etiology under clinically relevant conditions and in relation to the evaluation of pressure-redistribution support surfaces.
