11. Development of Fluorescent Nucleobase Analogues - Intrinsically labelled nucleic acids for molecular binding investigations
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the design, synthesis and utilization of fluorescent nucleobase analogues (FBAs). FBAs are an important class of compounds, used in the research of nucleic acids. The class of canonical FBAs, i.e. LÄS MER
12. Monolithic separation media synthesized in capillaries and their applications for molecularly imprinted networks
Sammanfattning : The thesis describes the synthesis of chromatographic media using several different approaches, their characterizations and applications in liquid chromatography. The steps to achieve a separation column for a specific analyte are presented. The main focus of the study was the design of novel molecularly imprinted polymers. LÄS MER
13. Biophysical studies of DNA binding – by the large filament-forming protein Rad51 and the small minor-groove binder Hoechst 33258
Sammanfattning : Mechanistic insight into the nature of DNA-binding ligands is crucial for both drug development as well as understanding more complex biological reactions that take place in the cell. In this Thesis, two rather different DNA-binding molecules are considered: 1. LÄS MER
14. Cellular Dyes and Bioactive Peptides - Cell Membrane Interactions and Cellular Uptake
Sammanfattning : Knowledge about mechanisms behind interactions of molecules with biomembranes and cellular uptake is very important for understanding biological processes and for drug design. The work described in this thesis has focused on interactions of cellular dyes and bioactive peptides with cells and the cell membrane. LÄS MER
15. Structure determination and thermodynamic stabilization of an engineered protein-protein complex
Sammanfattning : The interaction between two 6 kDa proteins has been investigated. The studied complex of micromolar affinity (Kd) consists of the Z domain derived from staphylococcal protein A and the related protein ZSPA-1, belonging to a group of binding proteins denoted affibody molecules generated via combinatorial engineering of the Z domain.
