1. Two photon above threshold ionization in a relativistic framework : Attosecond delays in high Z elements
Sammanfattning : Recent advances in experimental physics opens up for improved time resolution on measurements of ionizing processes in atoms caused by an EM-field. There exist non-relativistic models that describe photo-ionization events involving two photons, for various atoms, where relativistic effects, e.g. spin-orbit interactions, are small. LÄS MER
2. Material migration in tokamaks : Erosion-deposition patterns and transport processes
Sammanfattning : Controlled thermonuclear fusion may become an attractive future electrical power source. The most promising of all fusion machine concepts is called a tokamak. The fuel, a plasma made of deuterium and tritium, must be confined to enable the fusion process. It is also necessary to protect the wall of tokamaks from erosion by the hot plasma. LÄS MER
3. High-redshift active galactic nuclei and their environment
Sammanfattning : In order to understand the formation and evolution of local massive galaxies and to reveal the processes that engineered the tight correlations found between their supermassive black hole (SMBH) mass and bulge mass or velocity dispersion, the study of powerful, high-redshift active galactic nuclei (AGNs) and their environment is crucial. AGNs are luminous targets providing important clues to galaxy evolution, as their central SMBH is growing at high rates, which opens the opportunity to unfold how the growth of the black hole influences the growth of its host galaxy. 4. Lyman-alpha imaging of starburst galaxies in the local universe and beyond
Sammanfattning : The last decade has seen huge advances in studies of astrophysical cosmology, primarily as a result of developments in telescopic facilities. One of the primary observational signatures of actively star forming galaxies in the distant universe is the Lyman-alpha emission line (Lyα). LÄS MER
5. The environment of high-redshift AGN
Sammanfattning : In order to understand the formation and evolution of local massive galaxies and to reveal the processes that engineered the tight correlations found between their supermassive black hole (SMBH) mass and bulge mass or velocity dispersion, the study of powerful, high-redshift active galactic nuclei (AGN) and their environment is crucial. Observations of high-z quasars and radio galaxies suggest that these AGN live in overdense environment surrounding by star-forming Ly&alpha-emitters and submillimeter galaxies. LÄS MER
