1. Evolution of Plants : a mathematical perspective
Sammanfattning : The Earth harbors around 300 000 plant species. The rich and complex environment provided by plants is considered a key factor for the extraordinary diversity of the terrestrial fauna by, for example, providing food and shelter. LÄS MER
2. Genomic and transcriptomic investigation of reproductive incompatibility in Drosophila
Sammanfattning : Both nuclear and cytoplasmic elements can contribute to the emergence of reproductive incompatibilities that influence evolution and speciation. In the projects that compose this thesis, we use genomics and transcriptomics to study some of those elements in Drosophila. LÄS MER
3. Pollinators, Enemies, Drought, and the Evolution of Reproductive Traits in Primula farinosa
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I combined comparative and experimental approaches to examine selection on reproductive traits and population differentiation in the insect-pollinated, self-incompatible, perennial herb Primula farinosa. More specifically, I (1) determined whether the effects of floral display and interactions with pollinators and seed predators, and plant reproductive success were frequency-dependent and affected by surrounding vegetation context, (2) examined the consequences of intermittent drought years on population dynamics using numerical simulations based on demographic data collected over seven years, (3) analyzed among-population differentiation in flowering phenology and reproductive allocation, and its relationship to soil-depth at the site of origin. 4. Mechanisms of speciation in Silene
Sammanfattning : A fundamental question in the field of evolutionary biology is how new species originate. Investigating speciation benefits from an integrated approach, which requires a solid understanding of ecology, reproductive biology, geographical distribution, underlying genetic architecture of reproductive isolation (RI), demographic history and genomic divergence. 5. On the Evolution of Reproductive Systems in Neurospora
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study the evolution of reproductive systems and reproductive traits in the fungal genus Neurospora. More specifically, I have investigated the evolutionary forces shaping the genes involved in sexual reproduction, focusing on mating-type (mat) and pheromone receptor (pre) genes. LÄS MER
