16. Anaerobic Treatment of Agricultural Residues and Wastewater - Application of High-Rate Reactors
Sammanfattning : The production of methane via anaerobic digestion of agricultural residues and industrial wastewater would benefit society by providing a clean fuel from renewable feedstocks. This would reduce the use of fossil-fuel-derived energy and reduce environmental impact, including global warming and pollution. LÄS MER
17. Reaction and Diffusion Phenomena in Biomimetic Nanoscale Reactors and Networks
Sammanfattning : Methods for construction of geometrically complex, fully connected surface-immobilized microscopic networks of phospholipid bilayer vesicles (1-50 µm in diameter) interconnected by lipid nanotubes (100-300 nm in diameter), have been developed. The networks have controlled connectivity and are well-defined with regard to the container size, content, angle between nanotube extensions, and nanotube length. LÄS MER
18. Laccases from New Fungal Sources and Some Promising Applications
Sammanfattning : Fungi are a group of organisms with the ability to produce different types of enzymes in order to get access to nutrients. Among the enzymes, oxidoreductases have the ability to degrade lignocellulosic material via an oxidative mechanism, facilitating the uptake of cellulosic material, which will be metabolized using other enzymes to provide the required nutrients to the fungi. 19. Fungal Redox Enzymes Involved in the Oxidation of Organic Pollutants
Sammanfattning : This work describes the degradation of nonylphenol, toxaphene, phenanthrene, benzo[a]pyrene and dyes using fungi and their redox enzymes. Two fungi, Bjerkandera sp. strain BOL13 and Fusarium sp. strain BOL35 were isolated from different geographic area in Bolivia. LÄS MER
20. Lignin-carbohydrate complexes: Model compounds synthesis
Sammanfattning : In lignocellulose there is a recalcitrant interaction by covalent and non-covalent bonds called the lignin-carbohydrate complex. This interaction has been the subject of studies trying to unveil its chemical structure, to understand the mechanims involved in its formation and to determine its influence on practical applications such as the process of turning biomass into ethanol.
