  1. 1. Biodegradation of hydrocarbons in soil and water

    Författare :Mikael Eriksson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Solid Phase Microextraction; SPME; biodegradation; bioremediation; bioavailability; monitoring; Volatile Organic Compounds VOC ; Screening; headspace sampling; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; PAHs; aliphatic hydrocarbons; total petroleum hydrocarb;

    Sammanfattning : Biodegradation of aliphatic and polycyclic aromatichydrocarbons was studied in soil and liquid cultures attemperatures ranging from -5 º C to 20 º C undervarious aerobic or anaerobic, nitrate reducing, conditions. Twocontaminated soils were used in the studies. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Biodegradation of the Recalcitrant Endocrine Disruptor Nonylphenol

    Författare :Ana Soares; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biofilm bioreactors; Miljöteknik; pollution control; Environmental technology; Teknik; Technological sciences; white-rot fungi; nonylphenol ethoxylates; endocrine-disrupting activity; contaminated soil; cold-adapted organisms; kontroll av utsläpp; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; biodegradation;

    Sammanfattning : Currently, over 100 high-volume chemicals have been classified as endocrine disrupters. One of these is nonylphenol, which was used as the model compound in this study. This substance originates mainly from the degradation of non-ionic surfactants (nonylphenol ethoxylates) which are widely used in industrial and domestic applications. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Tuning the long-term properties to control biodegradation by surface modifications of agricultural fibres in biocomposites

    Författare :Thorsak Kittikorn; Monica Ek; Ferruccio Doghieri; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :agricultural fibres; biocomposites; renewable polymers; PP; PLA; PHBV; surface modifications; water uptake; microbial growth; biodegradation;

    Sammanfattning : Sustainable polymeric materials put emphasis on mastering the whole life-cycle of polymeric materials. This includes the choice of raw materials, selection of synthesis and processing, environmental impact during long-term use followed by detailed knowledge about recycling and waste management. 4. 4. How to estimate environmental persistence : Understanding persistence of organic micropollutants in rivers from a multidisciplinary perspective

    Författare :Claudia Coll Mora; Anna Sobek; Matthew MacLeod; Emma J. Rosi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organic micropollutants; biodegradation; persistence; rivers; flume mesocosms; Junge relationships; OECD 308 bottle incubations; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Organic micropollutants such as food additives, pharmaceuticals and personal care products are found in rivers worldwide. Persistence is a key criteria in chemical risk assessment as micropollutants that are persistent pose an exposure hazard to humans and the environment. LÄS MER
