  1. 1. Iodine Isotopes (129I and 127I) in the Baltic Sea   : Tracer applications & environmental impact

    Författare :Peng Yi; Ala Aldahan; Glen Snyder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; radioactive 129I; stable 127I; AMS; iodine species; nuclear reprocessing facilities; tracers; Baltic Sea; circulation; water exchange; environmental impact;

    Sammanfattning : 129I is a radioactive isotope (T1/2= 15.7 million years) produced through natural and anthropogenic pathways, but the anthropogenic production is presently dominating the Earth’s surface environments. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Lifecycle of Black Carbon in the Arctic

    Författare :Roxana S. Cremer; Ilona Riipinen; Peter Tunved; Sara Blichner; Hannele Korhonen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Black Carbon; Aerosols; Arctic; lifecyle; absorption; Environmental Sciences; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This PhD thesis investigates the atmospheric life cycle of Black Carbon (BC) in the Arctic. The Arctic region has been rapidly changing in the last decades and the role of BC aerosols in this is still uncertain. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Bioaerosols and their importance for low-level Arctic clouds

    Författare :Gabriel Pereira Freitas; Paul Zieger; Radovan Krejci; Kevin J. Noone; Claudia Mohr; Martin Gallagher; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bioaerosols; Aerosols; Clouds; Arctic; Cloud Condensation Nuclei; Ice Nucleating Particles; Sea Spray Aerosol; Environmental Sciences; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Bioaerosols are microorganisms or functional parts of them or other biological matter suspended in air. Examples are bacteria, viruses, pollen, spores, or smaller plant debris. In the atmosphere, bioaerosols can play various functional roles, such as facilitating the spread of genetic material. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Stable and radiogenic isotopes as tracers for geochemical processes in mineralogically-complex mine waste environments : Insights from 13C, 2H, 18O, 34S and 87Sr/86Sr

    Författare :Musah Salifu; Lena Alakangas; Maria Nieves Otero Perez; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tillämpad geokemi; Applied Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Mining and its related activities generate large volumes of mine wastes such as tailings that can have negative environmental implications. One of such mine wastes of potential environmental concern is the historical Yxsjöberg Cu-W-F skarn tailings in Sweden, which encompasses a complex mineralogy including sulphides, carbonates, silicates, oxides / wolframite and halides. 5. 5. Isotopic and Molecular Characterization of Incomplete Combustion Products in sub-Saharan Africa

    Författare :Leonard Kirago; Örjan Gustafsson; Samuel Gaita; Sophie Haslett; Antti Hyvärinen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Air pollution; climate change; savanna; Nairobi; black carbon; Environmental Sciences; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) is a global hotspot for incomplete combustion emissions from large-scale savanna fires, agricultural burning and growing city emissions. However, air pollution is understudied in the SSA region, resulting in a gap in the scientific understanding of regional emissions, source contributions, and impacts of air pollutants on regional climate and health.
