  1. 21. Environmental Assessment and Strategic Technology Choice : The Case of Renewable Transport Fuels

    Författare :Karl Hillman; Björn Sandén; Ken Green; Göteborg Chalmers Tekniska Högskola Miljösystemanalys Institutionen för energi och miljö; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; environmental assessment; life cycle assessment LCA ; socio-technical change; strategic technology choice; renewable fuels;

    Sammanfattning : The scale of the required changes is huge, and time is limited if we are to avoid the most severe effects of climate change. To reduce greenhouse gas emissions from road transport, several fuels and electricity originating from renewable energy sources have been proposed, all of them in different stages of development and with various and shifting environmental impacts. 2. 22. Road Ecology for Environmental Assessment

    Författare :Mårten Karlson; Berit Balfors; Ulla Mörtberg; Jo Treweek; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Roads; Railways; Biodiversity; Environmental Assessment; GIS; Decision Support; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Transport infrastructure is closely linked to several politically relevant sustainability issues, and since 1985 a formalized environmental assessment process is linked to planning and construction of new roads and railways in the EU (EU directives 85/337/EEC and 2001/42). The aim of the environmental assessment process is to think in advance; to identify, predict and evaluate significant environmental changes resulting from a proposed activity, in order to adjust the proposed activity accordingly and to avoid unnecessary and unexpected consequences. 3. 23. Environmental assessment of emerging technologies: the case of biopolymers

    Författare :Selim Nouri; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; life cycle assessment; cost assessment; environmental assessment; process modeling; biopolymer;

    Sammanfattning : Current efforts to mitigate climate change, using renewable resources and reducing waste, drives the development of new industrial processes. In this study we examine the technologies for conversion of biomass to plastics. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Innovation Processes and Environmental Planning : Science and Technology Policies in a Regional Context

    Författare :Katarina Larsen; Folke Snickars; Andrew Stirling; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Innovation; environmental planning; science and technology parks; strategic environmental research; environmental procurement; futures studies; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The understanding of environmental change and how it is influenced by innovation processes and advances in science and technology is multifaceted given the inherent uncertainty of the pace and direction of technology change, but also given the limits to anticipate future environmental effects of new technology. The doctoral thesis is organised in two parts. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Life cycle navigation through future energy carriers and propulsion options for the energy transition in shipping

    Författare :Fayas Malik Kanchiralla; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; environmental impact; life cycle costing; battery electric; fuel cells; electro-fuel; technical feasibility; economic impact; hydrogen; life cycle assessment; carbon capture; marine fuel; engines; ammonia; carbon abatement cost; shipping; methanol;

    Sammanfattning : The shipping industry's heavy reliance on fossil fuels has a detrimental effect on the global climate, human health, and the natural environment. The shipping sector now relies on the use of cheap and energy-dense heavy fuel oil and is perceived as ‘difficult-to-decarbonize’. LÄS MER
