1. Noise Applications in Light Water Reactors with Traveling Perturbations
Sammanfattning : Neutron noise induced by perturbations traveling with the coolant of light water reactors (LWRs) is investigated. Different methods to simulate the effect of propagating perturbations are considered. The studies are performed in both open- and closed-loop systems and summarized in three chapters. LÄS MER
2. The Effect of Different Perturbations on the Stability Analysis of Light Water Reactors
Sammanfattning : Neutron noise analysis techniques are studied and developed, with primary useof determining the stability of Boiling Water Reactors (BWRs). In particular, the role ofa specific perturbation prevailing in Light Water Reactors, the propagating densityperturbation, in the stability of BWRs and on the noise field of LWRs in general, isinvestigated by considering three topics. 3. Interaction between Electromagnetic Waves and Localized Plasma Oscillations
Sammanfattning : This thesis treats interaction between electromagnetic waves and localized plasma oscillations. Two specific physical systems are considered, namely artificially excited magnetic field-aligned irregularities (striations) and naturally excited lower hybrid solitary structures (LHSS). LÄS MER
4. Development and Application of Reactor Noise Diagnostics
Sammanfattning : A number of problems in reactor noise diagnostics have been investigated within the framework of the present thesis. The six papers presented cover three relatively different areas, namely the use of analytical calculations of the neutron noise in simple reactor models, some aspects of boiling water reactor (BWR) stability and diagnostics of core barrel motion in pressurized water reactors (PWRs). 5. Plasma environment of an intermediately active comet : Evolution and dynamics observed by ESA's Rosetta spacecraft at 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko
Sammanfattning : The subject of this thesis is the evolution and dynamics of the plasma environment of a moderately active comet before, during and after its closest approach to the Sun. For over 2 years in 2014-2016, the European Space Agency’s Rosetta spacecraft followed the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko at distances typically between a few tens and a few hundred kilometers from the nucleus, the longest and closest inspection of a comet ever made.
