  1. 1. The Use of Laboratory Analyses in Sweden : Quality and Cost-Effectiveness in Test Utilization

    Författare :Mirja Mindemark; Anders Larsson; Lars-Olof Hansson; Per Simonsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; continuing medical education; cost control; cost savings; physician practice patterns; diagnostic tests; clinical chemistry; primary health care; health care costs; laboratory management; test utilization; trends; cost-effectiveness; inflammatory bowel disease; irritable bowel syndrome; calprotectin; cost avoidance; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; Biomedical Laboratory Science; Biomedicinsk laboratorievetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Laboratory analyses, essential in screening, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of disease, are indispensable in health care, but appropriate utilization is intricate. The overall aim of this thesis was to study the use of laboratory tests in Sweden with the objective to evaluate and optimize test utilization. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Road Design for Future Maintenance : Life-cycle Cost Analyses for Road Barriers

    Författare :Hawzheen Karim; Björn Birgisson; Ulf Isacsson; Rolf Magnusson; Robert Thomson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; road maintenance; road management; road planning; road design; life-cycle cost; road barrier; guardrails; cable barrier; road traffic injuries; barrier collisions and barrier repair costs.; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur; Vägprojektering för minskade drift- och underhållskostnader;

    Sammanfattning : The cost of a road construction over its service life is a function of design, quality of construction as well as maintenance strategies and operations. An optimal life-cycle cost for a road requires evaluations of the above mentioned components. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Forest-Fuel Systems : Comparative Analyses in a Life Cycle Perspective

    Författare :Lisa Näslund Eriksson; Leif Gustavsson; Antti Asikainen; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; forest fuels; recovery systems; transportation; cost; primary energy use; CO2 emission; forest-fuel potential; life cycle perspective; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Forest fuels can be recovered, stored and handled in several ways and these different ways have different implications for CO2 emissions. In this thesis, comparative analyses were made on different forest-fuel systems. The analyses focused on the recovery and transport systems. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Groin hernias and unmet need for surgery in Uganda : Epidemiology, mosquito nets and cost-effectiveness

    Författare :Jenny Löfgren; Andreas Wladis; Pär Nordin; Birger Forsberg; Thomas Weiser; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Global surgery; groin hernia; groin hernia surgery; hernia epidemiology; low cost surgery; cost-effectiveness; kirurgi; Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Background Surgery has traditionally been considered more expensive than many other health care interventions and with little impact on the burden of disease in a global perspective. One of the reasons behind this misconception is that the effects of surgical conditions and their treatment have not been factored into the equation. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm : Epidemiological and Health Economic Aspects

    Författare :Kevin Mani; Anders Wanhainen; Martin Björck; Jonas Lundkvist; Craig Kent; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Abdominal aortic aneurysm; cost; cost-effectiveness; endovascular aneurysm repair; screening; surgery; survival; Vascular surgery; Kärlkirurgi; Kirurgi; Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a common disease that is life threatening when rupture occurs. The aims of this thesis were to study (I) the long-term survival after AAA repair, (II) the cost of repair with open (OR) and endovascular (EVAR) technique, (III) the effect of different statistical methods on interpretation of cost data, (IV) the prevalence of the disease among patients with suspected arterial disease referred to the vascular laboratory, and (V) the cost-effectiveness of selective high-risk screening.
