  1. 16. Effects of plasticizing and crosslinking on the mechanical and barrier properties of coatings based on blends of starch and poly(vinyl alcohol)

    Författare :Asif Javed; Lars Järnström; Henrik Ullsten; Peter Rättö; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Citric acid; Glycerol; Polyethylene glycol; Barrier properties; Starch; Mechanical properties; Polyvinyl alcohol; Adhesion; Cross linking; Extrusion coating; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In the last decades, intensive research has been carried out in order to replace oil-based polymers with bio-based polymers due to growing environmental concerns. So far, most of the barrier materials used in food packaging are petroleum-based materials. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Bio-based barriers from wood hydrolysates : A pilot-scale approach

    Författare :Soheil Saadatmand; Ulrica Edlund; Youssef Habibi; KTH; []

    Sammanfattning : Wood hydrolysates (WHs) are liquids extracted from the hydrothermal treatment of wood. They exist as the byproduct of forestry industries such as the dissolving pulp and fiberboard industries. WHs are hemicellulose-based with a large share of lignin in the chemical composition. 3. 18. Surface modification of cellulose-based fibres for use in advanced materials

    Författare :Simon Utsel; Lars Wågberg; Mikael Lindström; Magnus Norgren; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The awareness of our need for a sustainable society has encouraged the search for renewable, high quality materials that can replace oil-based products. This, in combination with increased competition in the forest industry, has stimulated a lot of research into different types of wood-based materials where cellulose-rich fibres are combined with different types of polymers.
