1. Strategies for Renewable Barriers with Enhanced Performance
Sammanfattning : Forest biomass is expected to play an increasingly important role in tomorrow´s global bio-economy as one of the main renewable sources of materials, chemicals and energy. In the framework of the biorefinery concept, the forestry industry is looking for new processes to utilize several fractions in the biomass (cellulose, hemicelluloses, lignin etc. LÄS MER
2. Rehabilitation following bone-patellar tendon-bone graft ACL reconstruction
Sammanfattning : The overall purpose of this Thesis was to improve treatment and rehabilitation after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction with bone-patellar tendon-bone graft. Study I: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare closed kinetic chain (CKC) training and a combination of closed and open kinetic chain (OKC) quadriceps exercises following ACL reconstruction on anterior knee laxity and isokinetic muscle torque. 3. Essays on Spatial Economies and Organization
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns both static and dynamic modeling in a spatial computable general equilibrium setting. First, we have applied a static framework for the assessment of economic impacts of the Öresund bridge. Secondly, we make an attempt to enhance the static framework through the introduction of economic dynamics. LÄS MER
4. Utilizing lignocellulose-based building blocks to develop recyclable polyesters
Sammanfattning : With the growing global population and the demand for new applications, the production of fossil-based plastics is continuously increasing. This has led to serious environmental concerns about the depletion of fossil resources, land and marine pollution, and generation of greenhouse gas emissions. LÄS MER
5. Structure and Dynamics of Hydrated Biopolymers
Sammanfattning : Hydrated polysaccharide systems primarily using xylans along with mutans and alternans were studied using long atomistic simulations over a few microseconds to analyse structure-function relationships and nanoscale interactions with moisture. The influence of various structural and chemical factors such as alignment, nature of glycosidic linkage, effect of moisture / chemical substitutions was explored with a focus on structure-dynamics correlations to aid in the effective functionalisation of biomaterials for the development of a green, circular bioeconomy.
