6. Source apportionment of carbonaceous aerosol - Measurement and model evaluation
Sammanfattning : Aerosol particles are found in the whole troposphere. Research regarding these particles has gained increased attention because of the effect the particles have on both health and climate. In the atmosphere, aerosol particles scatter incoming solar radiation and this has a cooling effect on the Earth’s climate. LÄS MER
7. Computational Studies of Graphene Growth and Carbonaceous Polyethylene Nanocomposites
Sammanfattning : Graphene, the youngest allotrope of carbon, has attracted a lot of attention in different fields of science due to its unique electrical, mechanical, and optical properties. Controlling the growth of graphene is a very topical subject and critical for producing material with desired properties since the properties of graphene are highly dependent on its atomic structure and it is often desirable that the material contains very few or (if possible) no defects. 8. Evaluating methods in source apportionment of the carbonaceous aerosol
9. Volcanic Aerosols in the Upper Troposphere and Stratosphere – Aircraft- and Satellite-Based Observations
Sammanfattning : Volcanic eruptions are the largest source of variability in the stratospheric particle concentration as they inject SO2 that is subsequently converted into sulphate particles. No major perturbation of the stratospheric aerosol load has been observed since the large eruption of Pinatubo in 1991, but several moderate eruptions after 2000 have caused deviations from stratospheric background conditions. 10. Studies of Volcanic Influence on Aerosols, Clouds and Climate
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the influence of volcanism on the compositions of the aerosols in the upper troposphere (UT) and lowermost stratosphere (LMS), and their direct and indirect impact on climate. Aerosol data were obtained by aircraft-borne sampling, using the CARIBIC (Civil Aircraft for the Regular Investigation of the Atmosphere Based on an Instrument Container) platform, and laboratory-based ion beam analysis of aerosol samples at the Lund Ion Beam Analysis Facility (LIBAF).
