  1. 1. Specific and nonspecific immune mechanisms in human gut : a comparative study of normal and ulcerative colitis intestine

    Författare :Moorix Mo-Wai Yeung; Sten Hammarström; Marie-Louise Hammarström; Marita Troye-Blomberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human intestine; ulcerative colitis; lymphoid aggregates; intraepithelial lymphocytes; lamina propria lymphocytes; γδT-cells; cytokines; IL-2; carcinoembryonic antigen; biliary glycoprotein; epithelial cells; glycocalyx;

    Sammanfattning : The intestine, with its large mucosal surface area, digests and absorbs food nutrients and maintains a beneficial microbial flora in the colon. Local protective immune responses against intestinal pathogens ensure the survival of the individual. These immune reactions are both specific and non-specific in nature. LÄS MER

  2. 2. ATP-Binding-Cassette Transporters in Biliary Efflux and Drug-Induced Liver Injury

    Författare :Jenny M. Pedersen; Per Artursson; Christel A. S. Bergström; Stefan Oswald; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ABC transport protein; Pgp; P-glycoprotein; ABCB1; BCRP; breast cancer resistance protein; ABCG2; MRP2; multidrug resistance-associated protein 2; ABCC2; BSEP; bile salt export pump; ABCB11; sandwich cultured human hepatocytes; SCHH; drug-induced liver injury; DILI; multivariate data analysis; OPLS; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane transport proteins are known to influence the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicity (ADMET) of drugs. At the onset of this thesis work, only a few structure-activity models, in general describing P-glycoprotein (Pgp/ABCB1) interactions, were developed using small datasets with little structural diversity. 3. 3. A study of the cytoplasmic domains of C-CAM isoforms : calmodulin binding and phosphorylation

    Författare :Magnus Edlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :adhesion molecules; adhesion regulation; BGP; Bgp; biliary glycoprotein; Calcium; Calmodulin; CaM; CAMs; carcinoembryonic antigen gene family; C-CAM; CEA; cell adhesion; Immunoglobulin super-family; PKC; protein kinase C.;

    Sammanfattning : C-CAM, a member of the Immunoglobulin Superfamily, was originally identified as an intercellular adhesion molecule, and can mediate cell-cell adhesion by homophilic binding. However, it also appears in high concentrations in luminal, microvillar surfaces. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Monoclonal antibodies against carcinoembryonic antigen and their use in tumor diagnosis

    Författare :Anders Hedin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : A new CEA-related substance, (CEAlow) was isolated from liver metastases of colorectal cancer. Purified CEAlow was homogeneous by several physico-chemical criteria. It had an apparent molecular weight of 125,000. 2/9 monkey anti-CEA sera gave a spur with CEA over CEAlow in immunodiffusion. LÄS MER
