  1. 1. Cardiovascular beta-adrenergic signaling : Maturation and programming effects of hypoxia in a chicken model

    Författare :Isa Lindgren; Jordi Altimiras; Eduardo Villamor; Laura Bennet; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : Despite the importance of β-adrenergic receptors (βARs) in cardiovascular disease, not much is known about how prenatal hypoxia effects βAR signaling in the postnatal animal. Thus, the aim of this thesis was to characterize the pre- and postnatal maturation of the cardiovascular βARs and the effects of chronic prenatal hypoxia on βAR signaling in the embryo and adult animal using the chicken as experimental model. 2. 2. Development and regulation of alveolar fluid clearance in the guinea pig

    Författare :Andreas Norlin; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; oxytocin-induced preterm labor; IRDS; fetal lung fluid; preterm lung development; amiloride-sensitive sodium channels; beta-adrenergic stimulation; alveolar epithelium; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Alveolar fluid clearance is driven by active absorption of Na+ across the alveolar epithelium. Development and hormonal regulation of alveolar fluid clearance over 1 hour was studied by instillation of a protein-containing, isosmolar fluid into lungs of fetal, newborn, and adult guinea pigs. 3. 3. Insulin Signalling in Human Adipocytes and its Interplay with beta-Adrenergic Control of Lipolysis

    Författare :Cecilia Karlsson; Peter Strålfors; Maria V Turkina; Jan Eriksson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of obesity has over the last 40 years nearly tripled and obesity is one of the major risk factors of developing type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes was formerly called adultonset diabetes but today, probably due to the rise in childhood obesity, it is also seen in children and adolescents. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The regulation of renal tubular Na+ transport is dependent on interaction between different hormones

    Författare :Yoshiyuki Ohtomo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Norepinephrine; oc-adrenergic; beta-adrenergic; neuropeptide Y; Na ; K -ATPase activity; C-peptide; ontogeny;

    Sammanfattning : Renal Na+,K+-ATPase (NKA) is of great importance for the regulation of salt metabolism and its activity can be inhibited by several natriuretic hormones. So far, the effect of antinatriuretic factors have been less well studied. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cyclic Nucleotide Phosphodiesterase 3B: Regulation in rat adipocytes and 3T3-L1 cells

    Författare :Tova Landström; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 3T3-L1 TNF-alpha; adipocyte; insulin; p70S6 kinase; mitogen-activated protein kinase; protein kinase B; phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase; phosphodiesterase 3B; cAMP; lipolysis; phosphorylation; signal transduction; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin stimulation of rat adipocytes results in phosphorylation and activation of the cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase 3B (PDE3B), a key enzyme in the antilipolytic signalling pathway of this hormone. In this thesis, the site phosphorylated in PDE3B upon stimulation of rat adipocytes with insulin and/or the beta-adrenergic agonist, isoproterenol is identified. LÄS MER
