1. Linear Time-Varying Systems: Modeling and Reduction
Sammanfattning : Linear time-invariant models are widely used in the control community. They often serve as approximations of nonlinear systems. For control purposes linear approximations are often good enough since feedback control systems are inherently robust to model errors. In this thesis some of the possibilities for linear time-varying modeling are studied. LÄS MER
2. Analysis and control of transitional shear flows using global modes
Sammanfattning : In this thesis direct numerical simulations are used to investigate two phenomenain shear flows: laminar-turbulent transition over a flat plate and periodicvortex shedding induced by a jet in cross flow. The emphasis is on understanding and controlling the flow dynamics using tools from dynamical systems and control theory. LÄS MER
3. A Methodology for Efficient Conceptual Design Analysis of Nonlinear Dynamic Structural Systems
Sammanfattning : There is a typical requirement conflict between fuel consumption and noise and vibrations in passenger cars. Obviously the combustion engine is a major source of vibration and has an influence on vehicle emissions. Similar properties apply to the power transferring mechanical driveline system. LÄS MER
4. Valuing Path-Dependent Options using the Finite Element Method, Duality Techniques, and Model Reduction
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we develop an adaptive finite element method for pricing of several path-dependent options including barrier options, lookback options, and Asian options. The options are priced using the Black-Scholes PDE-model, and the resulting PDE:s are of parabolic type in one spatial dimension with different boundary conditions and jump conditions at monitoring dates. 5. Model Reduction for Linear Time-Varying Systems
Sammanfattning : The thesis treats model reduction for linear time-varying systems. Time-varying models appear in many fields, including power systems, chemical engineering, aeronautics, and computational science. They can also be used for approximation of time-invariant nonlinear models. Model reduction is a topic that deals with simplification of complex models. LÄS MER
