1. The Politics of Combat : The Political and Strategic Impact of Tactical-Level Subcultures, 1939-1995
Sammanfattning : This dissertation argues that lower-level military leaders, commanding between a dozen and a few hundred troops, can have a major political and strategic impact. Furthermore, it is argued that the decisions made by these lower-level military leaders are shaped by subcultures, in particular under conditions of stress and uncertainty. LÄS MER
2. Afterlives : Jewish and Non-Jewish Polish Survivors of Nazi Persecution in Sweden Documenting Nazi Atrocities, 1945-1946
Sammanfattning : This dissertation examines how Jewish and non-Jewish Polish survivors of Nazi persecution who came to Sweden in 1945 as ‘repatriates’ and were associated with the Polish Research Institute in Lund, Sweden (PIZ) were engaged in transnational social and political processes during the early postwar period, including documenting Nazi persecution and contributing to postwar humanitarian and justice efforts. PIZ, a transnational initiative that documented the experiences of Polish survivors of Nazi persecution for history and justice in 1945 and 1946, was one of the few such initiatives undertaken by survivors who were refugees in a country not directly involved in the Second World War. 4. Justice for victims of atrocity crimes : prosecution and reparations under international law
Sammanfattning : This thesis takes its starting point from the need for a comprehensive approach towards justice following atrocities, and where not only the states in which the crimes were committed have a role to play. The thesis discusses atrocity crime (genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes) prosecution and reparations procedures concerning individuals as two appropriate courses of action, through which non-territorial states may contribute to atrocity prevention and justice for the victims of atrocities. 5. Remembering Chile : an entangled history of Hip-hop in-between Sweden and Chile
Sammanfattning : What does it mean when Hip-hop artists in both Sweden and Chile claim a Chilean or Latino artist identity? How can these identities be understood against the background of the 1973 coup d’état in Chile and its immediate and long-term consequences? This study sets out to answer these questions by focusing on the intersection of Hip-hop culture and the Chilean diaspora in Sweden after 1973. Based on a close reading of lyrics, as well as interviews with Hip-hop artists in both countries, it traces the way in which the artists position themselves, and in turn are positioned in different historical narratives in, and in-between the two countries.
